The topic of breakout players can be an ambiguous one. For example, some people view Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah as a 2013 breakout player. Others, meanwhile, feel that with 1,315 total yards and 10 scores a season ago, he's well past "breakout" territory. I tend to side with the latter. Either way, I went to Twitter and asked Big Ten fans for their 2013 breakout candidates.
Before we move on to the fans' picks, here are my top candidates: Devin Funchess and Melvin Gordon on offense and Adolphus Washington and Shilique Calhoun on defense. To be fair, my offensive picks had their moments last year, but I believe both become flat-out stars this fall.
