While Round 1 of the Big Ten Helmet Bracket was all chalk, Round 2 featured a couple upsets, including this stunner: No. 4 Indiana over No. 1 Ohio State. Big Ten fans advanced the Hoosiers, in a 54%-46% decision, setting up a Leaders Division final of Indiana vs. No. 3 Penn State.

The Sun Belt Conference released its new logo Sunday afternoon. You might be asking yourself, “OK, what does that have to do with the Big Ten?” Nothing, really, other than it looks like the conference may have used the Big Ten basketball tourney logo for inspiration. Everybody loves pinwheels!

Remember this terrific Ricky Stanzi America-themed print from last summer? The artist, Sean Thompson, is at it again. This year, Thompson has a piece that will interest a few Big Ten fan bases; it’s called “Evy,” and it’s of former Michigan player, Michigan State assistant and Iowa head coach/athletic director Forest Evashevski.

Last summer, I compiled a Big Ten football uniform bracket for fans to vote on. Unsurprisingly, Michigan won – although there were upsets along the way. This year, it’s time for a helmet bracket (only primary lids considered).

Pictured above is Wyoming’s new football field. It’s pretty sweet, isn’t it? The illustrations of the state’s Teton Mountains in both end zones is the headliner. Wyoming’s decision to include the iconic mountains in the end zones got me thinking: What thing synonymous with Big Ten towns/cities would be cool additions to Big Ten end zones? I asked the question on Twitter, and Big Ten fans responded.

As we all know, the Rose Bowl is kind of a big deal. It’s not called The Grandaddy of Them All for nothing, after all. To that point, the Rose Bowl will become the first bowl to host its 100th game Jan. 1, 2014. Such a momentous occasion deserves recognition, and that’s exactly what will happen.

Michigan State will wear a special “B” decal on its helmet that honors the Boston victims during today’s spring game live on BTN/BTN2Go. The decal, which is located on the back left side of the helmet, is the Boston Red Sox logo. See the decal on the helmet in this post.

It’s not going to be a regular spring game Saturday for UMass, and for obvious reasons. With all the terrible events that have transpired the last week in Boston and its surrounding areas, the game was going to feature plenty of emotion. They’ll be even more now as a result of the school’s terrific decision to go all out in honoring the Boston Marathon victims.

There are candy stripe pants, and then there are candy stripe blazers. Indiana AD Fred Glass showed off the latter during Saturday afternoon’s annual spring game at Memorial Stadium.

A couple years ago, the idea of a college football team lining up in different helmets during a spring game was the furthest thing from fans’ minds. Times have changed, though, and a majority of teams boast at least two helmets to choose from every week. In this weekend’s spring action alone, we saw a trio of Big Ten teams divide their squads by helmet design.

How much does Brady Hoke dislike rival Ohio State? Enough, apparently, that the Michigan coach has replaced the team’s red-numbered quarterback practice jerseys with full-on orange ones. Not just any orange jersey, either.

Nebraska, which moves into the state-of-the-art Pinnacle Bank Arena next season, unveiled its new court design Thursday afternoon. While the stained hardwood effect is one that’s best in small doses, this is a better look than what the Huskers have had in their first two Big Ten seasons.

The 2012-13 hoops season now complete, it’s time to look back at all of the alternate/throwback uniforms Big Ten teams wore during the successful campaign. By my count, there were 13 new special looks, four of which came from NCAA runner-up Michigan.
