Arizona State's offense looked sharp in the first quarter, scoring 14 points, and the Sun Devils lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Arizona State finished with 131 yards through the air and 62 on the ground in the quarter.

The Sun Devils got on the scoreboard first, rattling off an eight-play, 65-yard drive that ended in a score when Taylor Kelly threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Ozier. Kelly's 20-yard pass to Chris Coyle from the 35-yard line pushed Arizona State into enemy territory.

The Sun Devils opened up the lead, 14-0, after marching down the field for a seven-play, 60-yard drive that ended when Cameron Marshall pounded in a one-yard touchdown run.

Illinois has possession on its own 37-yard line to start the second quarter.
