I’ve already provided my snap reactions for today’s Big Ten early games and afternoon tilts. Now, it’s time to look at the three night games. The Big Ten went 1-2 under the lights, highlighted by Northwestern’s 23-13 win over Vanderbilt. Here’s a look at Saturday’s winners: Northwestern 23, Vanderbilt 13, Indiana 45, Massachusetts 6, Michigan State 41, C. Michigan 7, Michigan 31, Air Force 25, Minnesota 44, New Hampshire 7, and Ohio State 31, Central Florida 16. And the losers: Notre Dame 20, Purdue 17, Iowa State 9, Iowa 6, Virginia 17, Penn State 16, Oregon State 10, Wisconsin 7, UCLA

Arizona State topples Illinois, 45-15

Taylor Kelly completed 18 of 24 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown, and Arizona State rolled past Illinois 45-14 on Saturday night to improve to 2-0 under new coach Todd Graham. Kelly’s backup, Michael Eubank, was 5 of 5 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns and ran 7 yards for a score. Chris Coyle matched a school record for tight ends with 10 catches, totaling 131 yards and two scores. He caught six passes for 73 yards all of last season. Arizona State’s DJ Foster ran for 10 yards and one touchdown and caught one pass for 12 yards, and the margin is still 21, as the Sun Devils lead 35-14. Arizona State opened up the lead, 35-7, after Foster pounded in a one-yard touchdown run to end a two-play, 13-yard drive. Alden Darby’s interception of a Reilly O’Toole pass set the Sun Devils up to start the drive. Illinois polished off an 80-yard drive when O’Toole and Eddie Viliunas combined for a five-yard touchdown to make the score 35-14. Arizona State got things going through the air, passing for 110 yards in the quarter, and the Sun Devils now lead 28-7. Illinois has given up the last 14 points. The Fighting Illini closed the gap to 14-7 when Donovonn Young turned a handoff into a 17-yard touchdown to put the finishing touches on a 75-yard drive. Arizona State opened up the lead, 21-7, after Michael Eubank and Chris Coyle combined for a one-yard touchdown to end a seven-play, 84-yard drive. Arizona State’s offense looked sharp in the first quarter, scoring 14 points, and the Sun Devils lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Arizona State finished with 131 yards through the air and 62 on the ground in the quarter. While there’s always a certain excitement surrounding opening weekend, last week’s slate in the Big Ten left quite a bit to be desired.
