The 5-second rule is one many implement in their daily lives.
Drop something on the floor or ground, and you have five seconds to pick it up before it's no longer edible.
Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo subscribes to the theory, and he showed last week in the video below.
Hey @espn @SportsCenter is this #SCtop10 or #SCNotTop10 worthy?#MSU bball HC Tom Izzo picking up popcorn & eating it off floor! #Spartans pic.twitter.com/V6Qc38bgzm

Based on the tweets of those who know Izzo well, the coach is a good sport about being caught eating popcorn off the floor.

To Izzo's credit, this isn't all that rare for basketball coaches. Former Indiana coach Tom Crean feels the same way, as does former Ohio State coach Thad Matta.
In honor of #EarthDay, we'd like to give a shoutout to @OhioStateHoops head coach Thad Matta.
Way to re-use and recycle that gum, Coach. pic.twitter.com/7eNXEBtJvM
