The Big Ten champion won't be represented in the College Football Playoff.
Penn State, fresh off its 38-31 comeback win the Big Ten title game Saturday night, was No. 5 in the final CFP rankings, released Sunday, just ahead of Big Ten East rival Michigan.
The playoff field looks like this: No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Washington and No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 3 Ohio State.
The Nittany Lions beat the Buckeyes in the regular season, but they had two losses compared to Ohio State's one. By being ranked ahead of the Wolverines, though, the Nittany Lions earn the Big Ten's berth to the Rose Bowl.
