The institution, which traces its lineage back to its original charter in 1766, is celebrating its 250th ?birthday? this year, making it slightly older than the U.S. itself.

Still, it?s looking good for its age. The university counts many modern trailblazers among its alumni, including novelist Junot Diaz, civil rights leader Paul Robeson, female soccer star Carli Lloyd and economist Milton Friedman.
