Penn State redshirt freshman Jason Nolf had a bright future entering Saturday afternoon's match at Illinois. The Yatesboro, Pennsylvania, native's future is ridiculously bright following an emphatic win over reigning national champ and No. 1 Isaiah Martinez.
The victory grabbed the attention of college wrestling fans. For good reason, too. The decision snapped Martinez's 61-match winning streak, and it moved the third-ranked Nolf to 21-0 on the season.
"It doesn't matter who I'm wresting," Nolf told BTN sideline reporter Shane Sparks. "I always expect to score more points every single match."
Where did the redshirt freshman get the motivation to take down No. 1?
"My high school coach told me, 'Believe in your training,'" he said. "So, that's what I do. I replay him in my head. I know I train harder than anyone else, and I know that my gas tank is better, so I expected to get the win there."
