The Spartans, who recorded a comeback victory over then-No. 4 Kansas last week in the Champions Classic, went from No. 13 in both polls to No. 3 (AP) and No. 4 (Coaches). The Boilermakers, fresh off their Hall of Fame Tip-Off tourney crown, rose eight spots (No. 23 to No. 15) in the Coaches Poll and five spots (No. 21 to No. 16) in the AP Poll.
Another development: Maryland (3-0) is the consensus No. 2 team, behind No. 1 Kentucky, following then-No. 2 North Carolina's loss to Northern Iowa.
Indiana, the fourth and final ranked Big Ten team, moved up one spot in each poll, to No. 13 (AP) and No. 14 (Coaches).
