The event, which pits the Big Ten vs. the BIG EAST and will span eight years, honors the late Dave Gavitt, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer who had a profound and lasting influence on the sport of basketball on the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels.

A little more background on the new event: Each BIG EAST team will participate a minimum of six times, while every Big Ten program will play at least four times.
