Defending national champion and preseason unanimous No. 1 Ohio State remained atop the poll, once again garnering every first-place vote, after it won 42-24 at Virginia Tech.

Big Ten East rival Michigan State also stayed put, at No. 6, fresh off beating instate foe Western Michigan, 37-24, in Kalamazoo.

Wisconsin went from No. 18 to No. 24 as a result of its 35-17 loss to then-No. 3 Alabama.

Also of note: Northwestern, which beat No. 21 Stanford, is receiving the fourth-most votes (35) of unranked teams.
