Penn State redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Connor Darcey, 21, died in a car accident early Friday morning in Boston.

Darcey, a Wellesley, Massachusetts, native, compiled a .553 save percentage and a 5-9 record in 2015, his first season as the starter.

He was named to the inaugural Big Ten All-Tournament Team in May and claimed the conference's first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor, following a 15-save performance in his first start Feb. 7 vs. Vermont.

Penn State released the following statement Friday afternoon:

Our hearts go out to Connor Darcey's family, teammates, friends and everyone who knew him. It's a very sad day. The Penn State family has suffered a tremendous loss and we are deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family, friends, fellow students and the men's lacrosse family.

Darcey was a communications and sciences major.
