The greatest rivalry in men's college lacrosse lived up to the hype on Saturday night.
Junior Ryan Brown was phenomenal on the biggest stage, scoring eight goals to lead Johns Hopkins to an impressive 15-12 victory over Maryland in a Big Ten men's lacrosse matchup.
"It feels good to get this win, especially in a rivalry as traditional as this," Brown said following the game. "We're starting to peak at the right time."
With the win, the Blue Jays earn a share of the Big Ten regular season championship, as well as the top seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
"At the end of the day it comes down to heart, and these guys play with a lot of heart," Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala said. "It's been a heck of a ride."
The Blue Jays improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play with the win. Maryland falls to 12-2 overall and 4-1 as well in conference action. This was the first home defeat for the Terps this season.
Johns Hopkins closes out the regular season with three straight wins and will play No. 4 Penn State in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament. Maryland, the tournament's No. 2 seed, will play No. 3-seeded Ohio State.
