Illinois (19-13) earned a No. 3 seed in the NIT and will face No. 6 seed Alabama (18-14) in the first round at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday.

Despite having a higher seed, the Fighting Illini will hit the road to face the Crimson Tide at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa due to renovations taking place at State Farm Center in Champaign.

This will mark the sixth appearance in the NIT for Illinois. The Illini, who are 8-5 all-time in the NIT, also played in the tournament in 1980, 1982, 1996, 2010 and 2014. Overall, it marks the 36th postseason appearance for the Orange and Blue and the 31st in the last 36 years (25 NCAA Tournament, 6 NIT).
