Michigan State got the day started by defeating No. 21 Ohio State, 59-56, on a Denzel Valentine game-winning triple in the final seconds for its first win over a ranked team.
In the second game, Dez Wells and No. 19 Maryland held off upset-minded Penn State, 76-73, at the Bryce Jordan Center.
