Twenty-eight consecutive points in the second quarter has given Purdue a commanding 42-14 lead. Akeem Shavers turned a handoff into a one-yard touchdown to break the 14-14 standoff in favor of Purdue. Purdue opened up the lead, 28-14, after TerBush and Gary Bush combined for a 35-yard touchdown to end a five-play, 53-yard drive.

The Boilermakers made the score 35-14 when Ricardo Allen intercepted Cato's pass and returned it for a touchdown. Purdue made the score 42-14 when Josh Johnson intercepted a Cato pass and returned it for a touchdown.

The Thundering Herd's Tommy Shuler reached the 100-yard receiving mark for the game thanks to seven catches for 70 yards in the quarter, and currently sits with 125 yards in all.

Marshall's Cato hit 200 yards passing for the game in the quarter, part of his 256-yard passing performance thus far.

The Boilermakers will receive to start the second half.
