Iowa sniffed out Central Michigan's rushing attack in the first quarter and held the Chippewas to 19 rush yards and the Hawkeyes lead 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. Iowa aired it out in the quarter, finishing with 119 passing yards.

The Hawkeyes took the game's first lead after James Vandenberg and Kevonte Martin-Manley combined for a 10-yard touchdown on the last play of a five-play, 72-yard drive.

Central Michigan tied the game at seven after Zurlon Tipton pounded in an eight-yard touchdown run to end an eight-play, 75-yard drive.

The Chippewas broke the 7-7 standoff when David Harman made a 33-yard field goal to clinch a four-play, zero-yard scoring drive. A fumble recovery by Central Michigan set the Chippewas up at the Iowa 16-yard line to start the drive.

Mark Weisman's 34-yard touchdown run gave Iowa the lead, 14-10, and was the final play of a four-play, 55-yard drive.

The Hawkeyes will start the second quarter with the ball at Central Michigan's 44-yard line.
