Penn State sniffed out Ohio's rushing attack in the first quarter, holding the Bobcats to 16 rush yards and the Nittany Lions lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Penn State's passing attack looked sharp, as the Nittany Lions threw for 130 yards in the quarter.
Penn State took the game's first lead after Matt McGloin threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Bill Belton on the last play of a 10-play, 80-yard drive. McGloin's 21-yard pass to Allen Robinson from the 34-yard line pushed the Nittany Lions into enemy territory.
