It's another busy Sunday of Big Ten baseball. No. 11 Purdue baseball exploded for 10 runs in the ninth inning, recording 12 consecutive productive plate appearances in the frame, to overcome a five-run deficit and stun No. 14 UCLA, 15-11. PURDUE 15, UCLA 11: No. 11 Purdue baseball exploded for 10 runs in the ninth inning, recording 12 consecutive productive plate appearances in the frame, to overcome a five-run deficit and stun No. 14 UCLA, 15-11, in the finale of a three-game series Sunday afternoon. Seven of the 10 runs in the ninth scored with two outs. It marked the second time this season the Boilers (35-9) have posted double-figure runs in an inning. ILLINOIS 8, MICHIGAN STATE 6: Illinois softball concluded a three-game sweep of Penn State with a 3-2 walk-off victory at Eichelberger Field on Sunday morning. Freshman second baseman Jami Schkade scored the winning run from second in the seventh, with Penn State's left fielder, Shannon Hutchinson, misplayed a ground ball through the left side of the infield by sophomore left fielder Alex Booker. Following the win, Kelley Wedel accepted a marriage proposal from the senior's boyfriend, Matt Cervantes, at third base with the crowd at Eichelberger Field looking on. NEBRASKA at INDIANA (2) Game 1: Indiana 7, Nebraska 5. The Nebraska baseball team (29-17, 9-8 Big Ten) took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but a pair of runs by the Indiana Hoosiers (23-24, 10-7 Big Ten) in fourth, fifth and seventh innings propelled the Hoosiers to a 7-5 win that evened the three game series at 1-1. Game 2: After taking the series opener on Saturday 13-2, the Nebraska baseball team (29-18, 9-9) dropped a double header to the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday afternoon at Sembower Field to lose the three-game series. The Huskers totaled six runs on 11 hits in the series finale, but the IU batters were even tougher on NU?s pitching with nine runs on 16 hits.
PENN STATE at MINNESOTA: Despite having a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, Penn State baseball (24-23, 10-8) was unable to hang on and dropped the final game of its series with the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday. Penn State exits the weekend winning its fourth-straight Big Ten series. The last time the Nittany Lions accomplished that feat was 2007. Read the full recap at GoPSUsports.com.
OHIO STATE 4, NORTHWESTERN 1: Northwestern was unable to overcome a three-run first inning by Ohio State as the Wildcats dropped the series finale 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium. Read the full recap at NUsports.com.
