The Big Ten Conference released its Big Ten Softball Players of the Week for April 9-15 action Monday. See all the winners and check out what they did to earn the distinctions in this post.
Player of the Week: Kasie Hatfield, Penn State, So., C, Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain
- Had at least one hit and scored at least one run in every game, recording seven RBI and scoring four times to help Penn State to a series win over Indiana
- Hit .500 in Games 2 and 3, driving in five on a double and home run in the finale to improve her hitting streak to a career-high six games
- Recorded two RBI in the series opener before scoring twice in the Game 2 win
- Wins her first career conference weekly honor
- Last Penn State Player of the Week: Cassidy Bell (March 28, 2011)
Pitcher of the Week: Haylie Wagner, Michigan, Fr., P, Orange, Calif./El Modena
- Posted a 0.00 ERA last weekend against Michigan State, recording two wins and a save
- In 13.2 innings of work, surrendered just four hits and struck out 11
- Went the distance in Games 1 and 3, giving up two hits in each outing, and came on to pitch 1.2 innings of relief to earn the save in Game 2
- Wins her fourth Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor
- Last Michigan Pitcher of the Week: Haylie Wagner (March 26, 2012)
Freshman of the Week: Sara Driesenga, Michigan, P/DP, Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville
- Hit .600 and combined for an OPS of 1.914 in the three-game set against Michigan State, also earning the win in Game 2 on the mound
- Pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, surrendering six hits in the Game 2 victory, where she also went 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI
- Reached base twice in the series opener, where she scored a run, before hitting a solo home run in her only plate appearance in Game 3
- Takes home her second weekly award of the season
