The Big Ten Conference released its Big Ten Softball Players of the Week for March 5-11 action Monday. See all the winners and check out what they did to earn the distinctions in this post.
Player of the Week: Molly Spence, Wisconsin, Jr., DP, Wilmette, Ill./New Trier
- Helped Wisconsin to four wins last week after batting .529 with an OPS of 1.873
- Reached base in each game of the weekend and had three multi-hit games, including two three-hit games
- Belted four home runs on the week, including two in the final game of the weekend against Nevada, and finished with 10 RBI
- Wins her first Big Ten Player of the Week honor
- Last Wisconsin Player of the Week: Jennifer Krueger (May 16, 2011)
Pitcher of the Week: Sara Moulton, Minnesota, So., RHP, Eagan, Minn./Eagan
- Finished the week with a spotless ERA, allowing just three unearned runs in 22.0 innings last week
- Hurled her second no-hitter of the season after striking out 14 in a victory over Florida Atlantic
- Struck out 34 batters, compared to just two walks, and allowed only seven hits in three games
- Claims her fourth career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor and third this season
- Last Minnesota Pitcher of the Week: Sara Moulton (Feb. 27, 2012)
Freshman of the Week: Kaitlyn Richardson, Minnesota, IF, Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O?Connor
- Had three multi-hit games, getting a hit in each at-bat in two of those contests, to finish the week with a .538 average and an OPS of 1.436
- Scored five runs, drove in three more, and had three doubles as Minnesota won three games last week
- Was perfect from the plate against Bethune-Cookman (3-for-3) and Boston College (2-for-2)
- Claims her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
