It was a busy day of Big Ten women's hoops Tuesday night, with five teams in action. Michigan State beat IPFW, 62-56, in its home opener to pace the conference on a 4-1 night. Also winning were Illinois, Northwestern and Nebraska, which drilled Mississippi Valley State, 99-53. Wisconsin suffered the lone defeat, losing to instate rival Marquette. Michigan State 62, IPFW 56 BOX

In the home opener at Breslin Center tonight, the Michigan State women's basketball team needed a late run to top IPFW, 62-56. Senior Lykendra Johnson led the Spartans (2-1) with her 18th career double-double, posting 14 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. Read the full recap at MSUSpartans.com.

Northwestern 71, Western Kentucky 57 BOX

Northwestern used a 53 percent second-half shooting effort and a balanced scoring attack to topple Western Kentucky, 71-57, Tuesday evening at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Four Wildcats turned in double-digit performances, led by junior Kendall Hackney with 17 points. Freshman Karly Roser nearly recorded a triple double with 12 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Nebraska 99, Mississippi Valley State 53 BOX

Jordan Hooper and Lindsey Moore both produced double-doubles as the Nebraska women's basketball team ran to an impressive 99-53 victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Devaney Center on Tuesday night.
