#BTNLive is a new live one-hour radio show that started this week and it also airs as a TV simulcast twice a week on BTN. Featuring a variety of guests, our panel discusses the Big Ten topics of the day, and the first week of the show was a busy one. Tonight at 7 p.m. ET, Rick Pizzo and Gerry DiNardo are joined by guest Penn State great Ki-Jana Carter with reports from Chris Martin at Iowa-Iowa State and Rob Blackman at Purdue-Notre Dame.
Purdue defensive tackle Kawann Short thought about turning pro after last season, but he didn’t like what he was hearing from the NFL advisory board. So, he’s back for a senior season. And the affable Short just may be the top defensive tackle in the Big Ten.
There’s an interesting trend going on with star Big Ten football players. It all started when former Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure revealed in the days leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft that people had mispronounced his name all along. Enter the 2012 Big Ten season, and there are three more pronunciation changes: Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, Minnesota’s Troy Stoudermire and Purdue’s Kawann Short. The BTN tour bus was in West Lafayette, Ind., on Wednesday so our crew could watch Purdue practice and get a chance to talk to the coaching staff and top players. One of those players, Kawann Short, also added a little something to the BTN tour bus. As is tradition this summer, the player from each team represented on our bus signed their likeness. The Big Ten Conference announced its Week 8 Big Ten Football Players of the Week on Monday. Six players earned honors, including Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins, who threw the game-winning Haily Mary touchdown pass to Keith Nichol in Saturday night’s upset of then-No. 6 and perfect Wisconsin.
