Interesting choice for 1st team TE. He dropped a lot of balls in the Iowa game.

Doug on 12/2/2013 @ 10:34am EDT Said:

Funchess getting first team shows that there weren’t many stellar TE’s this year. I think he had one catch vs MSU. Pederson on Wisconsin should have gotten it instead.

Justin on 12/2/2013 @ 10:41am EDT Said:

How Dienhart could have no Ohio State offensive linemen on the 1st OR 2nd team is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen. I reread it 5 times before I could bring myself to believe that Linsley, Mewhort and Norwell were nowhere to be found. He’s saying that OSU’s rushing attack that is #2 in nation in yards per game, #1 in the nation in ypc at 7+, had (at best) the 3rd best center, 5th best tackle, and 5th best guard in the CONFERENCE? That’s an embarrassing oversight. Utterly indefensible.

jt harrold on 12/2/2013 @ 11:23am EDT Said:

Let me get this straight….Michigan has just about the worst offrense in the league, with 3 straight games under 200 yards and two straight games with negative rushing, and they get 3 offensive players on first team all league? Wow, if they had won more than 3 games and were in the top half of the league on offense they might have had every spot, I guess. Ridiculous….hype is more important than production, I guess. CJ Fed of Iowa was the best tight end in the league, but not hyped, so forget it, I guess….c’mon guys watch all the games not just Michigan-OSU…ok?

hoopsvader on 12/2/2013 @ 11:48am EDT Said:

tanfan should be on that list

If there was an “All Hype” team Michigan would get every spot.

Can’t understand voters. Coach of the year? When was the last time a coach from Ohio State received the award? They have more championships than anybody. Tressel never won the award and Meyers seems to be following the same pattern in the voters mind.

Sally on 12/2/2013 @ 12:36pm EDT Said:

Attention all future coaches: If you want to be Big Ten Coach of the Year, DO NOT take the Ohio State job. You will never be good enough. If Tressel and Meyer aren’t, despite leading the dominant program in the conference in this century, then you won’t qualify, either. (BTW, John Cooper was also no slouch, and he never won.) No Coach of the Year for OSU since Earle in 1979? Seriously???

Matt on 12/2/2013 @ 12:45pm EDT Said:

How did Tim Bennett from Indiana not get any recognition for 1st or 2nd team all-B1G for CB? He leads then nation in pass break-ups.

sweaver on 12/2/2013 @ 12:53pm EDT Said:

Sadly, the second best quarterback in the Big Ten this year is Kenny Guidant… he won’t get that, but should be ‘honorable mention.’

sweaver on 12/2/2013 @ 12:57pm EDT Said:

Guiton… stinking auto correct!!!

tj on 12/2/2013 @ 1:02pm EDT Said:

Tom D, did you actually watch any BIG football games this year? Please answer honestly because if yes, you are officially a football moron. A few of the many examples of your idiocy:

– You have 5 Ohio State Defensive players on the 1st and 2nd Team and 2 Ohio State Offensive players on the 1st and 2nd team. The problem is OSU’s D stinks while their O is possibly the best in the country.

– Funchess is hardly a TE. He is always in the slot or split and rarely blocks. He is also incredibly inconsistent. Terrible 1st team pick. Iowa and Wisonsoin both have better ones.

– No Ohio State O Lineman on the 1st or 2nd team? Really? Are you serious? Mewhort, Norwell and Lindsey will all be on the coaches 1st or 2nd team. Count on that.

– No way Roby played like a 1st Team CB this year. No possible way. Again, did you watch the games?

I am know dumber for having read your predictions. Wow!

Bill Ridenour on 12/2/2013 @ 1:04pm EDT Said:

No OSU offensive linemen on the first team when OSU is 2nd-to Army-nationally in rushing offense with nearly 330 yards/game? How many Wisky OL’s were on the first team when their rush offense was in the same position? ?

This would be laughable if it was not such a reflection on the voters’ stupidity and bias.

Josh on 12/2/2013 @ 1:40pm EDT Said:

Cody Latimer is a 2nd teamer? Behind Robinson, hes easily a 1st teamer.

scott on 12/2/2013 @ 1:49pm EDT Said:

Hyde and Miller must be the greatest QB/RB tandem of all time to be named 1st team All Big Ten while playing behind an O Line that couldn’t even muster a single vote for 1st or 2nd team honors…..and hey Tom, the next downfield block Taylor Lewan throes will be his first.

Randy B on 12/2/2013 @ 1:59pm EDT Said:

They didn’t reward Tressell for obvious reasons. Maybe Urban is cut from the same mold. Run a clean program!

Scott on 12/2/2013 @ 2:10pm EDT Said:

No only did Funchess drop a lot of balls (see Iowa, OSU), but didn’t he play wide receiver for much of the Big Ten season?

Doug on 12/2/2013 @ 2:14pm EDT Said:

IMHO Funchess is not norhas he played TE at all. He’s a big WR and lined up there most of the time! That position should go to a real TE!

Matt H (@HawkFanatic74) on 12/2/2013 @ 2:17pm EDT Said:

Does Funchess even play TE? He’s more of a split out guy. Great year for LBs in the Big10. As an Iowa fan, I think all three of our LBs are deserving as 1st or 2nd team in most years but with guys like Borland, Bullough and Shazier it’ll be tough and they’re all deserving.. Not sure if Randy Gregory is a prototype DE though. He’s a liability in the run game. Heck of a pass rusher though. Seems to be more of a 3-4 type DE.

Jeremy on 12/2/2013 @ 2:49pm EDT Said:

Wow…2 others pointed it out, but come on Tom…no OSU lineman on 1st or 2nd team? Many think they have the best line in the COUNTRY. The QB and the RB are first team…who blocks for those guys???

Bwalk on 12/2/2013 @ 3:10pm EDT Said:

Bolser was by far the best TE in the Big10 this year. They asked him to do everything, he lined up all over the field, and every week teams tried to take him away. A great year and career and much deserving of 1st team Big 10 in my opinion.

Chunon on 12/2/2013 @ 3:25pm EDT Said:

Yes the omission of the OSU lineman is mind boggling, also in agreement Urban Meyer deserves consideration for the coach of the year award, 24 and 0 need I say more ?

Moonunit on 12/2/2013 @ 3:25pm EDT Said:

Maybe they should change the name of this site from the BIGTEN network to the BIG BUCKEYE and BIG BLUE network……just sayin. Michigan shouldn’t even be an honorable mention in any position unless you add…….UUGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Lorna J Martin-Gallop on 12/2/2013 @ 3:53pm EDT Said:

Definatley Mark Dantonio, Michigan State for C.O.T.Y!!! He’s done well and kept the MSU TEAM ALIVE!!

brad on 12/2/2013 @ 4:06pm EDT Said:

Kofi Hughes will be catching passes on Sunday when most of those WR/TE selections are watching him on TV. Bigger, stronger version of Marvin Harrison.

Revival Begins on 12/2/2013 @ 4:09pm EDT Said:

quit your whining, Moonunit and JP. Michigan had some great performances by those 3 guys. other guys were the ones responsible for dragging the offense down

Grant on 12/2/2013 @ 4:25pm EDT Said:

The reason why Meyer is not in consideration for coach of the year is because the team did what they were suppose to do, win. Last year PSU won it because they were not suppose to do much after all the sanctions. This year with MSU, no one would have figured they would win 10 games, and were at best to finish 4th in the division.

Ryan on 12/2/2013 @ 5:24pm EDT Said:

Funchess at TE. You have got to be kidding me. How is CJ Fied of Iowa not the best pass catcher in the league? Guess he’ll prove that down the line when he’s making big bucks in the NFL. And Iowa put together its best linebacking corps in school history. So Morris, Hitchens and Kirksey need to get some love. I mean watch the tape, Morris and Hitchens were huge all year and Kirksey was all over the field in Iowa’s 38-17 win over Nebraska, which he’s done all year.

Brian on 12/2/2013 @ 5:39pm EDT Said:

Dantonio as Coach of the Year was a no-brainer! What other coach in the B10 did as much as he did with mostly 2 or 3 star recruits? Nobody! It’s called coaching them up (Brady Hoke may want to take some notes!). Meyer will never win Coach of the Year since he continues to pull in the best recruits in the country, so shouldn’t he win a lot of games? Throw in the fact that he’s running OSU like a SEC school, so it’ll just be a matter of time before he’s goes down in flames with a tattoo scandal, etc… GO GREEN GO WHITE!!!

Sally morgan on 12/2/2013 @ 5:47pm EDT Said:

I am so disappointed that Meyer was not selected coach of the year. Oh well, we are snubbed by ESPN but the Big 10 sure has a thing about OSU coaches as well. At least, many of our players were recognized.

Archawk on 12/2/2013 @ 6:00pm EDT Said:

Dantonio COTY? Not sure about that. MSU was 7-6 last year with a bowl win and lost 3 of those games by a field goal or less, and 4 of those by a score. Only one of those losses was really bad, and that was Iowa in that rain storm game. MSU could have easily been 11-1 last year but for some bad breaks. To look at that team and this year and say COTY? MSU didn’t have far to climb. What about Urban Meyer who has yet to lose a game at OSU in 2 years and is about to get the B10 into the national championship game? What about Minnesota? That team looked like it was gonna crater after Iowa beat them up, but 8-4? Crazy good for them. What about Iowa, a preseason consensus bottom feeder that finished top quarter and second in Legends to MSU? Even Wisconsin I think, with a new HC untested in big 10 play, finishing 9-3? All of those teams faced much steeper climbs this year than MSU. Not trying to downplay MSU’s season or anything I love the G&W but I don’t think Dantonio is COTY. Seem to be other more deserving choices.

Mike on 12/2/2013 @ 6:10pm EDT Said:

Wow, just wow. Dienhart willingly shatters his credibility by not picking any Buckeye linemen. Honestly, I had to peruse his inane picks twice.

Joemama on 12/2/2013 @ 7:12pm EDT Said:

Meyer as coach of the year?!? really? He was hired on 3rd base on thought he hit a triple. O’Brian earned that honor again in my book. No other coach as done more with less and his recruiting under his constraints has been unbelievable.

Terry on 12/2/2013 @ 7:40pm EDT Said:

Dienhart……totally assenine, as he usually is. Concerning offensive line picks leaving Mewhort of OSU out shows another example of that!

John on 12/2/2013 @ 7:51pm EDT Said:

Shazier as DPOY? He wouldn’t be a top two defender on Michigan State’s roster.

To me, the Minnesota staff should share the COY Award. Too many distractions and yet they still manage to win eight games. People griping for Meyer? No one likes him. He is an arrogant twit. Besides, was he not undefeated last year?

TT on 12/2/2013 @ 8:19pm EDT Said:

I think it is interesting that Urban Meyer took over a 6-7 team and has won 24 straight and has not been named coach of the year either year!!!! your coach of the year last year had 2 weeks to prepare for Urban this year and lost by 50! It will be interesting to see how your 2013 COY fares saturday

Sally on 12/2/2013 @ 8:36pm EDT Said:

Meyer took over a demoralized 6-7 team that couldn’t go to a bowl game, and coached/motivated them to 12-0 that season, and then did it again this year. And, isn’t recruiting a part of the coach’s job description. Why be penalized for recruiting good players? Good recruiting alone doesn’t win games – witnessNotre Dame over the last 20 years. It takes the whole package – recruiting, teaching/coaching, motivating, organizing, supervising, hiring good assistants, building relationships and trust, etc.

Tom Reynolds from the Spartan Nation on 12/2/2013 @ 8:45pm EDT Said:

Meyer should be COTY every year with 4 star recruits at every position and 3 star recruits as backups (Just give it to him for recruiting). For those whinny people from OSU lets put all of your super stars on the 1st team…. but then you wouldn’t have anything to cry about. What about O’Brien and Kill who don’t get the all star recruits and put out more than competitive teams!!! Dantonio earned the award so quit crying!

Jason Shaner on 12/2/2013 @ 10:29pm EDT Said:

Ohio State had the best o line in the big ten and yet on one list they had no first or second team players but Michigan who’s o line is horrible had 3, Are u freaking kidding me. @ Tom Dienhart how in the world do u have a job at BTN. You’re terrible. Do some more research clown.

Fred White on 12/3/2013 @ 1:34am EDT Said:

Maybe if michigan state and ohio would play each other more frequently many of these selections would sort themselves out. One thing is certain, one of them could not be bragging about an undefeated division record.

Mas Willis on 12/3/2013 @ 2:32pm EDT Said:

Gallon has to be first team you idiots.

bliznor on 12/4/2013 @ 10:23am EDT Said:

terrell pryor should be qb of the year, maurice clarret should be rb of the year and Jim TRESSELL for coach of the year

bliznor on 12/4/2013 @ 10:24am EDT Said:

devin funchess lined up in as a wide out only 11% of the time, sorry guy but he is a playmaker and a game changer.

bliznor on 12/4/2013 @ 10:32am EDT Said:

if Urban Meyer voted:
Coach of the year- me duh
QB of the year- probably me
RB of the year- ill go with the urbster again
WR of the year- that robinson guy , and me
oline- brady hoke, charlie wies, mark mangino, ralph friedgen, brady hoke again lolz!
