As much as I’d like to see Ind. beat P. St. I think it’s gonna end up being mich. against the nittiany lions for the championship. What happened to ‘ohio’? They got beat? HARHARHAR…to ind. no less!! Well, good for them….

I think the Legends seeding was exactly as it should be. How Wisconsin got a 2 seed with those ugly helmets is beyond me. I think Michigan has the best helmets with the second being a toss up between OSU and PSU.

Not really happy with either choice in this matchup. Everything about Penn St is creepy, and when it comes to anything related to football, Indiana is the laughing stock of the BIG. In the end, I voted for Penn St… but then immediately went and washed my hands.

Penn State- A tradition of excellence on the field but MORE IMPORTANTLY in the classroom as well because of one man, Coach Joseph Vincent Paterno. This helmet symbolizes the true Penn State Football “culture”-field accomplishments aren’t ‘celebrated’ with ostentatious stickers because the true function of the helmet is, first and foremost, to protect the head in the same way that the true function of the student athlete is, first and foremost, to be a student. I’ll take Penn State’s helmets and uniforms any day over anybody’s, especially Meatchicken,, Meatchicken State, Ohio State and Iowa. Especially Iowa. A lame attempt to steal the Steelers colors and uni’s. I’m a Steelers fan. I know the Pittsburgh Steelers. I grew up with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Iowa, you’re NO Pittsburgh Steelers, no matter how hard you try to look like them. IU is losing to Penn State’s helmets 80%+ to 19%+. When will the B1G Ten learn, Penn State people stick together NO MATTER WHAT. I’ve seen some of the comments on here, trying to slag Penn State with the same old, negative media and Kool-Aid. Give it up, people. Penn State won’t listen to or be influenced by your or anybody’s lies and misinformation about the Nittany Lions. Well see you in the fall. Get ready to taste some real pain when you do. We’re tired of it. Now, we’re coming out swinging. A big cat is most dangerous when it thinks somebody is trying to corner it.

CO_hawk on 5/24/2013 @ 1:05am EDT Said:

Doug, keep trying to justify the plain white helmet as the best thing ever. Also your a little late to the Steelers thing, 20 years ago I could understand. If you think Iowa stole the jersey design I feel sorry for you, Iowa asked the Steelers organization to use their design and it was granted. How many college teams can say that? One, and that’s Iowa. Maybe you should be mad at the Steelers organization.

By the way every Big10 fan base sticks together through the good and bad, but congrats on representing your team after the biggest scandal in NCAA history.

Tork Mason on 5/24/2013 @ 2:58am EDT Said:

LOL @Doug.

1. Did Iowa steal the uniform design from the Steelers? Yes; that’s pretty well known, and Hayden Fry actually went to the Steelers to get both permission and the design specs to make sure it was done accurately. But the colors? Iowa was black and gold long before the Steelers even existed. Those colors were around before 1933.

2. This is a meaningless fan vote on the best helmets. PSU fans should probably pick more meaningful battles if they want to prove how strong they are. Winning this pathetic contest (if they do indeed win it), the only purpose for which is to kill time in the offseason (for like the bazillionth year in a row), says very little about anything.

3. The entire “We Are” culture is what helped spawn the entire Sandusky fiasco. Football first; or more accurately, the clean, pure image of PSU football comes first. Outright defiance isn’t exactly something to be proud of.

@Doug, its not a lame attempt to steal the steelers uniforms. when Hayden Fry came to Iowa he wanted to mimick great tradition so he actual went to the steelers and asked permission and designed them to look like them. Its a compliment to the steelers, not a theft. That’s why the Hawkeyes have the best uniforms. Timeless simple design with an iconic tiger hawk on the helmet. GO HAWKS!!!

Loren Fry on 5/24/2013 @ 5:01pm EDT Said:

If I’m not mistaken, the contest is how the helmet looks not about traditions, teams and school spirit. Come on now, plain white with a blue stripe is boring and if Penn States tradition is to wear boring helmets, then that’s ok. They are not the best looking helmets!

OSU won because of the anti-Buckeye crowd. IU is catching up to PSU for the same reason. Michigan should be winning handily over Iowa, but it’s the same thing. The problem with polls like this is that there’s so much rivalry that fans will vote against teams instead of for them.

hawkeyebabe on 5/28/2013 @ 11:37am EDT Said:

As a fellow Hawkeye, I still respect Joe Pa. Great people make mistakes and I hope all non Penn State fans realize that. There is nothing better than an Iowa/PSU football game besides the fact we got demolished last year on primetime…😦

ChrisK on 5/28/2013 @ 12:27pm EDT Said:

I agree w/Jason. Just because you don’t like what he said doesn’t mean he’s a, “sanctimonious fool who hasn’t the first clue about what really went on at Penn State.” Well, this is what I took from “what went on at Penn State”: the leadership of the program, & university for that matter, tried to conceal extremely heinous acts in order to preserve the reputation of the football program & allowed these acts to continue, ON THEIR OWN GROUNDS in an attempt to further conceal these serial sex crimes. Every time they claim an individual wasn’t aware of the crimes, we find out later that they were, thus piling the lies upon lies, getting themselves in deeper. What I want to know is if Ray Grecar’s disappearance had anything to do with knowledge of the “scandal”. This could still become bigger yet, MUCH bigger if we someday find out that murder was a part of the coverup. I know that you, the PSU fans are also innocent victims, but you need to have some perspective hear. People are going to be sour on PSU for awhile, & you just need to let time pass. Being defensive about it will only incense the haters.

    Marie on 5/28/2013 @ 2:05pm EDT Said:

    As summarized in former FBI
    profiler Jim Clemente’s own words:
 “Given my 30 years of education, training and experience working, evaluating
and assessing child sex crimes investigations around the world, it is my expert
opinion that Paterno did not know, or even believe in the possibility, that
Sandusky was capable of sexually assaulting boys. At worst, he believed that
Sandusky was a touchy-feely guy who had boundary issues. This fact is clear
from his repeated statements before he died.”
 “[Paterno] did what he believed was reasonable and necessary to address the
situation based on his understanding of the facts, and his position at the time.
Paterno did what most people who cared about children would have done in the
same situation. More than a decade later, and in hindsight, Paterno showed his
concern for the victims when he stated he, ‘wished [he] had done more.’”
 “Paterno, like everyone else who knew Sandusky, simply fell victim to effective
‘grooming.’ [Grooming is a dynamic process of seemingly innocent, positive
public behaviors by the offender, aimed at gaining the trust of the targeted child,
parents and the community.] As an expert behavioral analyst and based on my
review of the evidence, Paterno did not believe that the information he received
from McQueary amounted to Sandusky being a predatory child sex offender.”

Rick Robson on 5/28/2013 @ 2:00pm EDT Said:

No question about it, Iowa will woop up on Michigan. By far, Iowa has the classiest helmet in the Big Ten

Kiki on 5/28/2013 @ 4:22pm EDT Said:

Go hawks!

Doug on 5/28/2013 @ 6:58pm EDT Said:

ChrisK, you have nothing but your speculation and NO hard evidence to back up anything negative you say about Penn State. The truth is NO ONE at Penn State-especially Joe Paterno-knew about Sandusky’s crimes until they were made public. Several different agencies throughout the Commonwealth investigated Sandusky and found NO hard evidence to back up any of your misinformed statements, until victims started coming forward in 2011-2012. THAT’S when most of the facts about Sandusky came out. To date, NOT ONE victim has blamed Penn State or alleged that Penn State knew or covered up for Sandusky’s crimes. I grew up there, went to school there and my Dad worked for Penn State. You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, which is people I knew growing up and know now. Sandusky committed crimes-NOT Penn State. You have no facts or credibility in any of your anti-PS statements..

    Chrisk on 5/29/2013 @ 11:27am EDT Said:

No facts? Are you serious? Paterno “did nothing wrong’? May I ask how old you are sir? You know what, nevermind. It’s pointless, discussion over.

Doug on 5/28/2013 @ 7:01pm EDT Said:

The difference between Penn State’s helmet and the rest of the inferior B1G Ten is easy to discern. At Penn State, what’s INSIDE the head wearing the helmet is more important than what’s on the outside of the helmet. which is why Penn State’s graduation rates for ALL it’s athletes is superior to every school in the B1G Ten.

Michigan fan on 5/28/2013 @ 7:39pm EDT Said:

Two things: Michigan has the greatest helmet in college football. And how can you vote for a team that stole the uniform design from an NFL team? (Iowa)

Looks like this poll (as did the ESPN one awhile back) has been hacked.

Marie on 5/29/2013 @ 8:55am EDT Said:

This website has been hacked. Every time anyone votes for Penn State, the percentage vote goes down. BTN network and Brent Yarina have been notified.

Cornelius on 5/29/2013 @ 9:39am EDT Said:

Interesting……I just voted in immediate succession on 3 separate computers…..each time I voted for PSU the percentage DECREASED; it should have INCREASED. Something’s definitely hosed. Would the website administrators please look into this? The website has obviously been hacked. PSU dropped by 30% in less than 7 hours.

    BTN.com staff on 5/29/2013 @ 10:36am EDT Said:

Cornelius, just voted ourselves and didn’t see this behavior but we have asked our developers to keep an eye on it.

How can psu be 85% then drop and be losing in just a few hours??? I voted and Indiana percentage went up??? Looks like another hack job… No one can play fair these days

    BTN.com staff on 5/29/2013 @ 11:08am EDT Said:

Thanks, Kelley. We are looking into this.

Marie on 5/29/2013 @ 11:38am EDT Said:

Please find the hacker. This happened on an NCAA poll, and the NCAA was able to eliminate the hacked votes.

Marie on 5/29/2013 @ 11:46am EDT Said:

If you are truly looking into this, BTN.com staff, why did you post the winners on your FB page???

Jason on 5/29/2013 @ 1:12pm EDT Said:

What’s the deal here BTN? Unless Hoosier nation swarmed this site in the closing hours (which I highly doubt), Penn State won this contest by a huge margin. Something is going on here…

    Brent Yarina, BTN.com on 5/29/2013 @ 1:16pm EDT Said:

Nothing is “going on” on our end, I can assure you that. A lot of these polls are influenced by which schools RT, post to Facebook, and which bloggers do the same.

Marie on 5/29/2013 @ 3:27pm EDT Said:

Mr. Yarina, then explain how votes for Penn State caused a reduction in the the percentage per vote. This phenomenon was conveyed by many people in the past day. This could only happen if the hacker programmed in that a vote to PSU would be converted to a vote for Indiana. The same thing happened on an NCAA poll, and NCAA found that they had been hacked and corrected it. If you are “looking into it”, why would you announce the winners?? The NCAA temporarily closed their polls, investigated it, and corrected it. We request that you do the same.

    BTN.com staff on 5/29/2013 @ 3:54pm EDT Said:

Marie, thanks for the note. We’re not familiar with the NCAA example you point to. However, these BTN.com polls got a lot of traffic. We’ve spoken with our developers and we’re confident they worked as they should. As for your question, here’s actually a second scenario that can occur, especially when a poll is found by one overwhelming fan base in a short amount of time (i.e. Michigan – see our previous comment): Someone votes for option A, and 500 people are voting for option B. When that first voter looks at the results again it appears that the overall percentage for option A went down as a consequence of their vote, when, actually, the two events are unrelated. Somehow we don’t think that will assuage you on this point, but that’s how this unfolded.

Jason on 5/29/2013 @ 4:52pm EDT Said:

I feel pretty confident in saying that the public vote would have Penn State and Michigan in the final. BTN can spit out all the bogus scenarios they want. I highly doubt the polls could have made that drastic of a change at that late hour. I understand this isn’t something to argue about, but let’s keep it honest, BTN..

    Brent Yarina, BTN.com on 5/29/2013 @ 5:30pm EDT Said:

Jason – I thought Big Ten fans would go Michigan vs. Ohio State. Personally, I love Penn State’s helmet/uniform, but people seem to either love it or hate, making it hard to trust in these kind of things.

Marie on 5/29/2013 @ 5:29pm EDT Said:

Agree with Jason. Apparently the “developers” are not capable of detecting hacking or keeping things honest. Enough of these silly polls anyway. BTN has lost my confidence – no credibility whatsoever.

matt on 5/29/2013 @ 5:53pm EDT Said:

For what it is worth it wasn’t just the Penn St-Indiana matchup that ‘flipped’. Iowa was also up by 10-15% late last night and had been for days. Then this morning not only had both polls ‘flipped’ in a major way the polls were now closed as well. At the end of the day it is all just a silly poll, but still that screams fixed.

Doug on 5/29/2013 @ 6:19pm EDT Said:

The poll is clearly fixed. Penn State was beating Indiana by a wide margin last night, over 74%+ to 26%. For the poll numbers to have flipped as they did overnight is not only unlikely but statistically improbable..

fortheglory on 5/30/2013 @ 8:18am EDT Said:

Brent, the numbers don’t lie. From almost 90% to 40% overnight? Indiana fans must have really burned the midnight oil for a sport that judging by attendance few even care about.

As alluded to earlier, Penn State was the victim of the same thing on an NCAA scholarship poll. They wound up shutting it down and awarding the scholarship funds rightfully to the school when it was determined that foul play occurred. But we’ve learned enough in the past 20 years to know that wouldn’t happen here. Thankfully there is nothing real at stake here, it’s just another example of Big Ten incompetence.

Since you want us to believe that this was on the up and up, how about you release the actual raw number of votes per school? That way we can gauge just how many votes it took to overcome such a huge deficit in such a short time. That would publicly show just how improbable the change in percentage would have been, so I won’t hold my breath on that.

Mike Devine on 5/30/2013 @ 9:07am EDT Said:

Poll is a joke. Obviously PSU and Michigan won – absent the shenanigans by either a hacker or the BTN. Denials by the network crack me up. Our developers (paid contractors with no incentive to find their error, I’m guessing) said everything is fine. Hilarious. BTW, you may want to check and say what Mark Cuban was up to yesterday. If he could figure out how to stream IU basketball games to himself, he could probably figure out how to hack this poll.
