What a JOKE! 12-0 and no Coach of the Year. You’ve just totally discredited this entire process.
Sometimes it’s about more than just a record…We love ya BO’B!
If 14-0 and a NC wasn’t enough for Tressel to win it, no way will Meyer or any other OSU coach win it with a mere 12-0. No OSU coach has won since 1979!
Coach of the Year…Bill O’Brien…SERIOUSLY?!?!?! You gave the guy coach of the year award because you felt sorry for Penn State…plain and simple. What a joke.
Who had the bigger handicap to work with – Urban or O’Brien? Who overcame the greatest hardships? Who was able to rebuild a team with massive sanctions? O’Brien earned it and I’m glad he was recognized. Please, if you don’t like it, go away.
As a Husker Alum, I agree that O’Brien did more with less than any other coach in the conference (especially after all the transfers – including Silas Redd).
Meyer benefitted from the additional benefits to possibly have players on his roster that he wouldn’t have had there had they not been getting those freebies that players at other schools did not have available. Ohio State shouldn’t have to cheat to get the better players. Just being Ohio State football should have been enough. I guess that is what cheaters get.
Lewan is the dirtiest O-Lineman in the game, way to go guys, and the punter for M over the punter for MSU, are you guys kidding?
what does it take to win coach of the year ? 12 – 0 isn’t enough ? what a joke
Coach of the Year is not just about a record…and I’m glad to see Coach Obrien be honored. He’s been a wonderful addition to our university and we couldn’t ask for a better man to fill that position. Way to go Coach! We are!
Hey Guido…try getting your information correct before posting your ignorance for all to see. In fact, none of the players who were involved in getting improper benefits were on the team this past season. Urban Meyer took a team that was 6-7 last year, with nothing to play for at the end of the year…nothing to play for but their pride and each other. Just think what he’ll do with a few years of his own recruits…you’ll be toast. Get ready.
Guido, your points about B’OB overcoming more and achieving success with less are fair. However, making this about justice for “cheating” isn’t really reasonable. No current players on this team have even been accused of anything dishonest. Similar to PSU, the OSU players are having to pay the price for something others did and that they had nothing to do with. If you believe B’OB is more deserving, I can accept that. But holding violations from 2010 against Meyer is just wrong.
@MIck….Penn State has no one to blame for those sanctions but Penn State.
trading autographs for tattoo’s isnt cheating. how does getting a tattoo for your autograph give you an advantage on the field? it was an ncaa infraction, not cheating. when rich rod was coaching at michigan and they got caught having 15 extra practices then allowed, that was cheating, that would give you an advantage on the field and they got a slap on the hand. but let a player benefit from anything and its the end of the world, cause the only ones allowed to benefit is the ncaa and the schools. lets be honest about it .
First off it is not about who had a better record than last year. It is about who did the most with what they had Penn State should not have won 4 games this year and they won 8. Ohio State was a 9 or more win team and they won 12. Deal with it.
Meyer took the Buckeyes from 6-7 to undefeated. They never gave coach of the year to the coach that dominated the conference for a decade. What a sham.
So O’Brien takes a team that went 9-4 in 2011 and leads them to an 8-4 record this year. Whereas, Meyer took a 6-7 team and turned it into a 12-0 team (including a beating of PSU)…and O’Brien is the COY? I understand he had a few key defections like Silas Redd, but he still had the same basic team. The scholarship attrition hasn’t affected them yet. Look at all the first year starters the Bucks had…along with how young the team is. There was no depth, injuries forced several key players to miss several games (including losing our starting TB for the whole year). Hell, we even had to put a FB at LB halfway through the season. Just seems like a shame!
…and for those taking shots at the Bucks over a few players selling THEIR stuff to get tattoos…you’re hypocrites. I can promise you that kind of stuff happens at EVERY program.
Seems like every conference has a team within it that resembles Texas in the Big 12. What a joke!
Urban Meyer won with great recruits from Jim Tressell era what he did was impressive but they did not in any way have scrubs on their team PSU won with guys who wouldn’t start at many of the big ten schools! Great pick for coach of the year!
While I agree that Coach O’Brien did a great job with what he was handed, he didn’t improve his team. Last year PSU was 9-4 overall (6-2 in BigTen), this year 8-4 Overall (6-2 BigTen) and couldn’t convince players to stick around. Coach Meyer turned around a 6-7 overall team (3-5 BigTen) into a 12-0 Team (8-0 in BigTen) and was able to hold this Buckeyes team together. I know the sanctions are nastier for PSU, but show me the improvement that warrants this award.
Guido: You’re just mad because we scored 63 on the vaunted “blackshirts”. Get ready for 70 next year.
Mick: Going from 6-7 to undefeated is pretty amazing. What was PSU’s record last year? And I seem to recall the Buckeyes killed PSU…on the road.
You guys are great examples of what’s wrong with the process. You’re mad that we killed you, so you won’t vote for us. Big deal. We’re going to kill you next year, too. And we don’t want your coaches’ vote next year either.
No emotion here…pure objectivity…a 6-7 team to 12-0 vs a 9-4 team to a an 8-4 team. REALLY???
Like many OSU fans, some people lack common sense. 12-0 is outstanding, but with all the talent at OSU…..what’s to be expected? If you have everything and do great…… yawn. If you are stripped of talent and play very well…… Great!
Penn State coach took a team that had players leave (11) some top players. Got the rest to believe in the self. Lost first two games and still kept player (players free to leave all year with out having to set out). With this he still put together a great team. Ohio State coach to good players and got them to play like they should. The interm coach just had not skills that is way the poor record last year.
U guys just lost TONS to credibility
jca…And neither does OSU. And holding things that were not athletic violations and not in the jurisdiction of the NCAA against ALL athletes at PSU, all who were in diapers at the time, is also just wrong! Meyer knew what he was getting when he took the job and I’ll bet he is classy enough to accept not getting an award unlike OSU fans. Quit whining and move on. We have.
Though I agree with what most of you are saying about OSU and how Meyer should have gotten coach of the year for turning this team around. (I am a OSU fan myself) A lot of us are overlooking that Matt Goulin was a WALK ON. Penn State was LOST at the beginning of the season. I really dont know who deserves Coach of the Year most. But I will say is, Im glad one of these two coaches got it.
Bill Obrien – do the right thing; decline the “honor”
Based on the coach’s all B1G picks, PSU had much more talent than OSU! Evidently, neither OSU’s players or coach are any good (no OSU players selected to first team offense) . It must truly be miraculous that a team with no talent (according to the coaches) led the league in scoring and went 12-0! Either that or these picks are simply a product of agenda driven politics. Coaches getting snubbed by jealous rivals is understandable (though unacceptable) but snubbing kids like Shazier is just sick.
so meyer takes over a 6-7 team that was ranked preseason below 5 other big ten teams and goes 12-0 with only 2 first team big ten players….this should have been a slam dunk!
Osu had the record they had last yr bc of their coach. U bring in a great coach,12-0 isn’t a shock. Get overyourselfs.
Ispasak- just letting u know osu don’t play the huskers next year unless in title game…good way to see you follow your team close
Can’t wait to hear what the excuse for not voting Meyer COY next year will be. Perhaps “Since he went 12-0 in 2012 and simply maintained 12-0 again in 2013, he hasn’t really done anything special”. Jealous rivals always come up with an excuse (no OSU coach has won COY since 1979!). Tressel couldn’t win it with a 14-0 record and a NC. No way Meyer or any other OSU coach will win this award. Congrats to B’OB but we all should understand what awards voted by coaches (with no transparency or accountability) really are.
So why is it that OSU fans thing the 12-0 record is it that wins the coach of the year period? Tom Osbound went 61-3 from 93 to 97 and never won the award. I will take the wins and three. nation titles over coach of the year any day. Or is this what make you mad you cannot win the national title so the Big 10 coach of the year is your trophy. Do not know. You had a great year as a team kick our rear and deserve to be told your team did great. However, there is a reason you cannot play for a title you are paying for you last coach you knew of cheating glad to know he never got coach of the year.
As bad as the Big Ten is as a conference, I’m not sure this award is that prestigious anyway. Meyer should have edged out O’Brian for at least preparing his team against a MAC team. Lol!!!!
@heilmang…I agree that OSU (those responsible) was to blame. I’m not denying that. It is unfortunate though, that those NOT responsible has to suffer the consequences and that goes for both OSU and PSU players.
It is simple guys, Ohio State coaches are just not ever eligible for the coach of the year award.
O’Brien for COY. Biggest JOKE in the BIG. They lost to a MAC school at HOME and lost to Virginia. They didn’t even improve their record from last year. How humiliating for the BIG to choose him for this award.
The coach of the year I expected to go to O’Brien. He did great job in a tought situation. I question how Braxton Miller, a QB, gets Quarterback of the year and Offensive Player of the Year in the league, but is not the first team all conference selection? Did I miss something or did I read something incorrectly?
Ive never seen a bigger bunch of babies then the Ohio St fans on here, all for the coach of the year award. I dont think Meyer or OBrien should have won because they are both under sanctions. Granted Ohio St had a great year with a 12-0 record and Penn State had the emotional smack down like no other team in history. But the fact remains that they are both under penalties and therefore should not be able to win any awards. By the way, how did practice go today with those teams, thats right, they didnt. Also, giving Miller the Greese Breeze QB of the year and the Graham George offensive is just confusing when T Martinez was voted #1 QB by the coaches, which they have forgotten more about football then any media person will ever know. T-Mac almost single handed beat the best of this league.
T. MartinezNeb 12 148.3 308 195 63.3 2483 8.1 21 8 74
B. MillerOhioSt 12 140.5 254 148 58.3 2039 8.0 15 6 72
Whos the better QB just look at the numbers. No Way Miller should win anything, just proves BTN is biased towards Ohio St
Big Red One, maybe the three turnovers when martinez played the buckeyes had something to do with it. Oh by the way, Braxton had on turnovers. He was outplayed head to head.
What I don’t understand is why Ball got RB of the year? I know he broke the FBS record for TD’s but that was because of the previous 2 years, this year his team only went 7-5, as far as QB Miller was at least a candidate for the Heisman, Ball wasn’t even close. I think Ball got it for breaking the record and not for his performance this year.
So do you think that Carson Palmer is a better QB than Drew Brees because he played better when the Raiders played the Saints?
Braxton Miller was good enough to be named one of the three finalists for best qb in the nation! Although Taylor had a great year he is nowhere near the top three in the nation….Go Huskers Saturday! They will represent much better in Pasadena than a mediocre .500 Badger team
He had fewer turnovers and played well. By the way, his team didn’t lose a game. Taylor had so many comebacks because his turnovers put his team in a hole.
Judging from the adulation that was heaped upon TOSU’s rogue ex-coach last weekend, it appears the culture there is ripe for more rule-breaking. Better keep your nose clean, Urban.
For those who thought O’brien had less to work with, Meyer has lost 15 players from a 6-7 team since last January, and O’brien lost 13 from a team that was 9-4 last year.
It was a celebration of a national championship, and Tressel did a lot great things at tOSU. Who is your team, Victor? I’ll bet I could find something about your team to nit pick. Trading your personal property for tattoos should be a hanging offense, huh?
As far as I know, no one here had a say in any of the voting. Geez, but we’re all a bunch of whiners, aren’t we? Unless you got a say in the voting, honor those who were recognized and hope that your favorites do better next year. No wonder the SEC fans think we’re lame.
Who cares what SEC fans think?
SEC fans are whiners go to there boards.
The biggest joke is on the B1G for not voting Fickel COY in 2011 for the same reasons BOB won this year. Now look at what you have chosen to face!
Buckeyes, no reason to get mad. The best coach in the conference is down south securing more 4 and 5 star recruits to finish off what will be by far the best recruiting class in the conference. Urban is going to transform this conference that sadly has become complacent and content with getting to a bowl game and winning 8-9 games. This was urban’s most vulnerable team and still undefeated. Great things to come…go bucks!
Huskerfanforever, since you know so much about SEC websites, why don’t you go there. 63-38, it’s just the beginning.
I never met an OSU fan who didn’t like to look at themselves in the mirror. Urban should have won it. You should be playing for a NC. Mitt should have won. There should be peace on earth is Holiday Season. Anything else?
Smallmind, your name says it all, whose your team by the way?
its cheating when you know the playes did somthig wrong and you hid it so you wont lose a game and thats what ohio state did!!!!!!!
