2nd Quarter Recap: Northwestern 28, S. Dakota 0

Northwestern gained 62 yards on the ground in the second, and the Wildcats now lead 28-0. Northwestern added to its advantage when Venric Mark pounded in a six-yard touchdown run, putting a bow on a six-play, 57-yard drive to give the Wildcats the lead, 21-0. Northwestern opened up the lead, 28-0, after Mark turned a handoff into a four-yard touchdown to end a four-play, 28-yard drive. 2nd Quarter Recap: Penn State 14, Temple 3

Penn State racked up 99 passing yards in the quarter, and the Nittany Lions now lead 14-3. Temple finished off a 58-yard drive when Brandon McManus kicked a 34-yard field goal to make the score 7-3. The Owls went to the air just two times on that drive. Penn State expanded its lead to 14-3 thanks to a two-play, 35-yard drive that ended when Matt McGloin kept it himself for a two-yard touchdown run. Mark Weisman: The Art of the Stiff Arm

Iowa’s Mark Weisman ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort for Iowa on Saturday, but several of his runs featured some amazing stiff-arm shoves. Watch three clips in this post including a powerful run up the middle where he just flattens the defender. The run in the next clip may be less of a stiff arm but Weisman still uses his upper body to stampede into the end zone.

With 35 points in the first quarter, No. 22 Nebraska now holds a 35-0 lead over Idaho State. The Cornhuskers got on the scoreboard first, rattling off a two-play, 68-yard drive that ended in a score when Rex Burkhead turned a handoff into a 61-yard touchdown. Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead returned for the first time Saturday since he hurt his left knee in the team’s season-opening win over Southern Miss. Wearing a bulky brace on the knee, Burkhead started and looked great in the early going. The senior ran for 79 yards on his first three carries, including a highlight-reel 61-yard scoring scamper. James White rushed for a pair of touchdowns Saturday, helping Wisconsin overcome the early loss of Montee Ball in a 37-26 victory over UTEP.
