Purdue’s Caleb TerBush threw four touchdown passes, including three to Gary Bush, Saturday and the Boilermakers ran two interceptions back for scores as they held off Marshall 51-41. TerBush finished 27 of 37 for 294 yards on a day both offenses had big numbers. Marshall (2-3) lived up to its billing as the nation’s No. 1 passing offense.

Braxton Miller threw for 179 yards and ran for 130, and No. 14 Ohio State held off No. 20 Michigan State 17-16 on Saturday, giving Urban Meyer a win in his first Big Ten game as Buckeyes coach. Miller put Ohio State (5-0, 1-0) ahead 17-13 with a 63-yard touchdown pass to Devin Smith in the third quarter, and the Buckeyes’ maligned defense held Le’Veon Bell and the Michigan State running game in check.

Andrew Maxwell led Michigan State in the quarter. He threw for 108 yards and one touchdown and caught a 29-yard touchdown pass, but the margin is still four, as the Spartans trail 17-13. Michigan State made the score 7-6 after Dan Conroy drilled a 50-yard field goal to finish off a 49-yard drive. The Spartans used a grind-it-out style on the drive, as no play went for more than five yards.

Marshall’s Gator Hoskins led the offense in the third quarter. He caught two passes for 29 yards and one touchdown, but the Thundering Herd have closed the gap to 45-28. Marshall made the score 42-21 after Rakeem Cato tossed a 28-yard touchdown to Hoskins to finish off an 87-yard drive. The Thundering Herd relied on a run play just two times on that possession.

Twenty-eight consecutive points in the second quarter has given Purdue a commanding 42-14 lead. Akeem Shavers turned a handoff into a one-yard touchdown to break the 14-14 standoff in favor of Purdue. Purdue opened up the lead, 28-14, after TerBush and Gary Bush combined for a 35-yard touchdown to end a five-play, 53-yard drive.
