The new targeting rule hasn’t affected the Big Ten as much as many feared entering the season. In fact, on the final Saturday of the regular season, the conference saw just its fifth ejection. This time, it was Purdue’s Landon Feichter who was flagged for the penalty and automatically ejected at Indiana. Watch the hit in this post.
It’s time for all of the Big Ten to take notice of Steve Hull. The Illinois senior wide receiver, a converted safety, can’t be stopped. Entering Saturday’s game vs. Northwestern having averaged 166 yards receiving the last three contests, Hull hauled in one of the more ridiculous touchdown grabs we’ve seen this season. What did he do? Find out in this post.
If you missed it Saturday, Gary Andersen wasn’t exactly thrilled that he and the Badgers weren’t granted a timeout seconds before Penn State snapped the ball and scored a touchdown late in the second quarter. Leading 14-7 and with Penn State deep in Wisconsin’s red zone, Andersen noticed a mismatch on the outside and sprinted down the sideline to call a timeout. The officials ignored the timeout request, and Christian Hackenberg hit Geno Lewis for an easy 3-yard scoring strike. See the play in this post.
Michigan-Ohio State is one of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports, so it’s not uncommon for tempers to flare a little bit when the two teams meet. That’s just what happened early in the second quarter following a short Ohio State kickoff return. The two sides mixed it up after returner Dontre Wilson was brought down near the 15-yard line, and, in the end, three players were ejected.
Iowa and Penn State both lost heartbreakers in their respective tournament title games Saturday. Villanova topped the Hawkeyes in overtime in the Battle 4 Atlantis championship, while Ole Miss nipped the Nittany Lions in the Barclays Center Classic final. Nebraska, however, topped NIU. Catch up on all the day’s action in this post.
