Friday Links: Setting you up for Saturday

It’s Friday. Game day is near. Time may be running out on your school’s bowl hopes. Or, maybe your school is trying to enhance its bowl prospects with another victory. Ohio State? It has no such concerns, as probation means the Buckeyes can’t play in the Big Ten title game or in a bowl. Still, Ohio State would like to finish unbeaten and faces its toughest test yet at Wisconsin. Defense will be key for Ohio State in Madison. Read about how defensive backs Travis Howard and Bradley Roby have emerged as leaders, as well as other Big Ten news,

Indiana's Crean follows 5-second rule

By all accounts, few things went wrong for No. 1 Indiana during its blowout win over Sam Houston State on Thursday night. In Tom Crean’s postgame interview with BTN’s Jim Jackson, the Indiana coach stressed how his team him with the sustained effort from his team for the entire game. That’s why we hope his players didn’t give their coach a hard time about one specific mishandling of the gum near the end of the win. Watch this clip to see what we mean. “Kids at home, you’re not supposed to do that, OK?” Jackson said during the broadcast. BTN

Purdue's Robert Marve

Dienhart: Battered Marve aims for bowl bid

You can’t help but notice the clunky brace on Robert Marve’s left knee. It wasn’t there way back in 2007, when Marve was one of the nation’s hottest shots, a can’t-miss prospect from Plant High School in Tampa, Fla. Name a school, any school, and Marve could have gone to it. Now, six years later, Marve is finishing out his college career in relative obscurity and far from the national spotlight. A Heisman contender? An All-American? A first-team All-Big Ten choice? Nope. Nope. Nope. There are a number of reasons why Marve’s career never fulfilled expectations. The biggest is because

Indiana's Jordan Hulls hits 1,000 career points

In a blowout win of Sam Houston State on Thursday night, Indiana senior guard Jordan Hulls drilled a three-pointer from the top of the arc to reach 1,000 points in his Hoosier career. Once play stopped, the one-time Indiana Mr. Basketball from Bloomington South High School grinned as the crowd went wild, and during a timeout Indiana coach Tom Crean raised Hulls’ arm and acknowledged the crowd.
