Video: Ohio State Urban Meyer's 360 Vine

CHICAGO – Urban Meyer is a big draw under normal circumstances. Add Ohio State’s recent player discipline to the equation, and the two-time national championship coach easily had the largest throng of media following him at Wednesday’s Big Ten media day. Meyer knew the attention was coming. He also knew he’d be answering plenty off-the-field questions despite being the coach of a popular preseason pick to make the BCS title game. Illinois' Scheelhaase ecstatic about tying the knot

CHICAGO – Nathan Scheelhaase is a happy man. For the first time in his Illinois career, the senior quarterback can finally forget about Skype and get some real face-to-face time. Scheelhaase and his longtime girlfriend, Morgan Miller, tied the knot July 6 in their hometown of Kansas City. “It was a great day,” Scheelhaase said at Wednesday’s media day of the wedding. “It was so awesome to share that experience with her.” [ RELATED: Read all of’s media day coverage ] The new Mrs. Scheelhaase, who just graduated from TCU with a communications degree, moved into her husband’s Champaign

Dienhart: Stability in backfield key to Iowa's season

Iowa fans are aching for a good season. Who can blame them? The Hawkeyes have seen their win total drop each of the last four seasons, from 11 wins to eight, to seven to four. Having a healthy running back situation certainly will help Iowa pump life into a sluggish offense as the program makes a quest for a bowl after missing the postseason last year. Dienhart: Michigan's offense shifts gears

The spread offense is all the rage. Just look around. More and more schools are using the scheme—and playing at an up-tempo. Oregon is the standard. But not at Michigan. Nope. It officially is dumping the spread now that Denard Robinson is gone. Truthfully, the Wolverines began a transition to a more pro-style attack in 2012 when Robinson got hurt and Devin Gardner took over for a program whose trademark for years before Rich Rodriguez was hired in 2008 was a conventional scheme. “I think everyone believes in a philosophy, obviously,” said Michigan coach Brady Hoke. “We all have our

Dienhart: Can IU take the next step?

Kevin Wilson is making progress at Indiana. He debuted with a 1-11 mark in 2011 and improved to 4-8 last season. This season, Wilson’s Hoosiers are a trendy pick to be a Cinderella team in the Big Ten. It’s true. Indiana, a team that hasn’t been to a bowl since the 2007 season, is viewed by many as a team on the rising. It makes sense. Indiana was close to a breakthrough last season, dropping close games to Michigan State and Navy, while also pushing Ohio State to the limit. The Hoosiers bring back a wealth of offensive talent from

New penalty concerns Nebraska's Bo Pelini

One of the biggest early-season stories in 2013 will be the new penalty for targeting a defenseless player. Last year, the penalty was a 15-yard infraction. This year, the penalty is ejection from the game. It’s all about player safety. But Nebraska’s Bo Pelini has some concerns. [ RELATED: BTN2Go now available on all BTN’s top distributors ] “I understand it’s about player safety, but we have to make sure we’re not messing up integrity of game and how it’s played,” said Pelini. “It’s going to be pretty subjective … In my opinion it’s going a little overboard.” Honestly, I

Dienhart: Purdue QB battle heats up

Who will play quarterback at Purdue? It’s a key issue that must be answered for new Boilermakers coach Darrell Hazell, who has energized a struggling program in a few scant months. There are three signal-callers in contention: senior Rob Henry, redshirt freshman Austin Appleby and true freshman Danny Etling. For now, it looks like Henry and Etling are emerging, but Hazell isn’t counting out Appleby. The decision will be a big key to the success of an offense that is littered with questions. “We have a nice battle going on,” Hazell said. “Henry and Etling will get equal reps. We will
