Week 9 of the college football season was filled with a little bit of everything. We had upsets, blowouts and plenty of top plays. Minnesota had a memorable 34-23 upset victory over Nebraska, making the Gophers bowl eligible. Iowa edged out Northwestern in overtime, while both Michigan State and Ohio State cruised to blowout wins over Illinois and Penn State, respectively.

What did I learn in Week Nine? Ohio State and Michigan State are really good—and may be headed for a showdown in Indianapolis. Minnesota is a feel-good story that keeps getting better. Iowa is alive and well. And Northwestern’s season is on the edge.

If you somehow had any doubts prior to Saturday about who was the best team in the Big Ten, Ohio State surely cleared those up with its dominating effort vs. Penn State. Iowa and Minnesota were big risers. But Saturday wasn’t so good for Nebraska and Penn State. Here are my post-Week Nine Power Rankings, presented by ArcelorMittal.

Ohio State remained No. 4 in the latest BCS standings, released Sunday night. The Buckeyes drilled Penn State, 63-14, but were unable to move up as no one ahead of them lost. Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin come in at No. 21, 22 and 24, respectively. See the full BCS rankings, as well as the Coaches and AP polls in this post.
With just four games, it was an abbreviated week of action in the Big Ten. But there was no shortage of excitement. A big revelation: Michigan State looks like the class of the Legends Division. Before we turn our attention to Week 10, it’s time to revisit how the BTN.com team and Big Ten fans did with their Week 9 Big Ten predictions. Everyone but Brent Yarina went 3-1, meaning Stephen Bardo and Sean Merriman are tied atop the standings, at 56-12. Big Ten fans are one game behind the pace, tied with Brent Yarina.
