Friday's top sights and sounds from Indianapolis

After addressing the media on Friday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium, both Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio made one thing clear – This year’s Big Ten Championship Game is going to be a good one. Scratch that. A GREAT one. Fans of both schools began crowding the streets in downtown Indianapolis on Friday in anticipation for tomorrow night’s big game. I made it a point to take in every moment of it and tried to capture the best of the best leading up to the third annual Big Ten Football Championship game. Best Sight from coaches press conferences: Urban Meyer

For now, let’s take a look at some numbers on both sides of the ball for both sides starting with this one: Ohio State and Michigan State have played six common foes in 2013. They are Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue. The Buckeyes’ total margin of victory in those tilts is 130; MSU’s margin was 126. MSU defense, OSU offense eyeing each other

INDIANAPOLIS — The marquee on the Big Ten title game says “Ohio State vs. Michigan State.” But it may as well say “Ohio State’s offense vs. Michigan State defense.” That’s what many are focused on the eve of the game. Why not? Each is among the best in the nation in their respective field. And whoever wins that battle will go a long way toward winning the Big Ten championship game on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium. Check out some of the numbers: Ohio State leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the NCAA in scoring (48.2 ppg).

Meet the press: Watch Friday's media sessions

Both football coaches spoke with reporters at the Big Ten Football Championship press conferences today in Indianapolis, and BTN aired them both live. Ohio State’s Urban Meyer went first and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio followed up. We’v posted video of both session in this post and transcripts below those videos. Later today, #BTNLive, with Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo, Howard Griffith and Glen Mason, will air live from the Big Ten Fan Fest at 6 p.m. ET. Also, Mike Hall will host BTN’s Big Ten Football Report Championship Preview at 7 p.m. ET with Brandon Williams, Jim Miller and Stanley Jackson.

Dienhart: Looking back at last time OSU-MSU met

Adding to the intrigue of the Ohio State vs. Michigan State Big Ten championship game is the fact the teams didn’t play this fall. The Buckeyes cross-division foes in 2013 were Michigan, Iowa and Northwestern. The Spartans played Purdue, Indiana and Illinois. The last time these teams met was on Sept. 29, 2012, in East Lansing, Mich. It was the Big Ten opener for each team. And, for Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, it was his first Big Ten game.
