Indiana held its second press conference in less than 24 hours Wednesday afternoon, this time to update the media on what engineers found after inspecting the Assembly Hall roof. On Tuesday, a metal facing fell from the roof and forced the Hoosiers to postpone their game vs. Iowa. The culprit was just what Glass and others figured: snow and ice on the roof. Gonna reach into my mailbag. Let’s start with my survey of Big Ten writers from last week in which I asked them what they thought was the most intimidating home-court edge in the Big Ten. The consensus among the writers I polled said Michigan State’s Breslin Center was the most intimidating.

Former Nebraska forward Brandon Ubel experienced a lot during his time as a Husker. Not only did Nebraska move from the Big 12 to the Big Ten midway through his career, he played his final season for Tim Miles after spending the first three years under Doc Sadler. The Iowa basketball team sent out a release Wednesday morning asking fans who are attending Saturday’s game vs. Wisconsin to wear gold and be in their seats by 10:45 a.m. CT, 15 minutes before tip. The reason: Iowa will instruct fans on how to do Carver-Hawkeye Arena’s inaugural card stunt.

It’s a great debate across the Midwest, stretching from Lincoln over to State College and up to Minneapolis and down to Bloomington: Is the Big Ten the best league in the nation? You can make a case for and against the notion, but the topsy-turvy nature of the season has been crazy. Get this: Since Jan. 25, road teams have won 22 of 40 games. And of the six games played last Saturday or Sunday, the visitor won five.
