Purdue Beats the Hawkeyes, 3-2

The University of Iowa volleyball team dropped a five-set decision to 10th-ranked Purdue Thursday night inside Halloway Gym (22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-6). Iowa threatened to sweep the Boilermakers, grabbing leads of 8-5 and 14-13 in the third frame, but Purdue ran away from a 15-15 tie with 10 straight points to win set three, 25-15. The Boilermakers then built an early 10-3 advantage in the fourth set and eventually held on for another 25-15 decision to force a decisive set five. Minnesota Sweeps Michigan State, 3-0

No. 16 Minnesota swept tonight’s match against Michigan State at the Sports Pavilion, 3-0, improving to 15-9 on the season and 8-7 in Big Ten play. The Michigan State volleyball team (18-7, 7-6 Big Ten) swept past Iowa (11-15, 1-12 Big Ten), 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 4 in Iowa City, Iowa, to open the first of four straight road contests. Spartans Cruise in Exhibition Win

Draymond Green scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Michigan State’s second exhibition game, an 80-58 win over Hillsdale Friday night. The balanced Spartans had eight players with at least seven points, with centers Adreian Payne and Derrick Nix and freshmen Travis Trice and Branden Dawson each scoring 10. Michigan Basketball Edges Past Wayne State

The University of Michigan men’s basketball team defeated Wayne State, 47-39, in an exhibition contest on Friday night at Crisler Arena. Sophomore guard Tim Hardaway Jr. led the scoring and rebounding for the Wolverines with 20 points and nine boards, while senior guard Zack Novak recorded 14 points and freshman guard Trey Burke tallied six points with four assists. Illini Win Exhibition Opener

Sophomore Meyers Leonard poured in a team-high 18 points in Illinois’ 79-51 exhibition win against Wayne State on Tuesday night at the Assembly Hall. Brandon Paul (15), D.J. Richardson (11) and Nnanna Egwu (10) also scored in double figures for the Illini, who used a 22-1 second-half run to cruise to victory. Minnesota Wins Exhibition Game

The Minnesota men’s basketball team opened its season with a 71-58 exhibition win against Bemidji State on Tuesday night at Williams Arena. Trevor Mbakwe had 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Ralph Sampson III added 15 points and four rebounds to pace the Gophers. Freshman Andre Hollins dished out eight assists without a turnover and scored six points.
