It was a busy day of Big Ten women’s hoops Tuesday night, with five teams in action. Michigan State beat IPFW, 62-56, in its home opener to pace the conference on a 4-1 night. Also winning were Illinois, Northwestern and Nebraska, which drilled Mississippi Valley State, 99-53. Wisconsin suffered the lone defeat, losing to instate rival Marquette. The Big Ten women’s hoops season is opening with a flurry, and we’ve got a roundup of Sunday’s busy slate of seven games. No. 12 Penn State and No. 17 Purdue both carded victories – the Nittany Lions beating Middle Tennessee, 65-49, and the Boilermakers dropping IUPUI, 75-45 – but the conference did suffer three defeats. It took a bit for University of Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes to hit their stride Saturday night, but after a slow start, the Iowa women’s basketball team nearly reached triple digits in the first game of the 2011-12 season. Junior Jaime Printy led the Hawkeyes (1-0) with 24 points in a 90-81 win over Harvard (0-1). Watch highlights from the game now.
