The first day of the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament featured four games on BTN/BTN2Go as Michigan beat Illinois, Nebraska handled Northwestern, Minnesota beat Wisconsin, and Michigan State eliminated Indiana. The 2011-12 All-Big Ten Women’s Basketball Teams were announced live on BTN on Monday night. Ohio State’s Samantha Prahalis, Minnesota’s Rachel Banham and Penn State’s Coquese Washington were named player of the year, freshman of the year and coach of the year, respectively, by both the coaches and media. Prahalis was the lone unanimous choice on both first teams, as well. Watch our interview with Prahalis now. Big Ten Women's Tournament bracket released

The Big Ten Conference announced the bracket on Sunday for the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, with conference champion Penn State earning the No. 1 seed and one of four first-round byes. The tournament is set for Thursday-Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, previously known as Conseco Fieldhouse. BTN and BTN2Go will air the tournament’s first 10 games, starting with No. 7 Michigan-No. 10 Illinois at 11:30 a.m. ET Thursday. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m. ET Sunday. No. 15 Penn State routed Minnesota to claim the outright Big Ten title, No. 23 Nebraska took down No. 14 Ohio State in a battle of ranked teams and Purdue blasted archrival Indiana. Ohio State's Prahalis scores record 42 in win

On Thursday night Ohio State’s Samantha Prahalis had a game for the ages as the Buckeyes senior guard scored a school-record 42 points in her last home game and Ohio State beat Minnesota 81-56. She finished with six rebounds, four assists and three steals before leaving to a standing ovation with 2:27 left after breaking Katie Smith’s 1994 record by hitting two free throws. Prahalis leads the Big Ten in both scoring (21.3 points per game) and assists (6.7) and had 22 points by halftime as the Buckeyes (24-4, 11-4 Big Ten) built a 12-point lead. She hit 15 of 27

PSU clinches share of title; Illinois beats Northwestern

Monday night featured a pair of Big Ten women’s basketball games, and it also saw Penn State clinch at least a share of its first Big Ten title since 2004. The Lady Lions accomplished the feat by powering past ranked Ohio State, 84-66, at the Bryce Jordan Center. In other action, Illinois dropped instate rival Northwestern, 69-57.
