It was an exciting opening week of Big Ten play Saturday as divisional play kicked off, with Michigan shutting out Minnesota and Penn State holding off Indiana, and Wisconsin routed Nebraska in the Huskers’ much-anticipated Big Ten debut. In other action, Illinois rallied past Northwestern, Michigan State stifled Ohio State and Notre Dame dropped Purdue. Week 5 Big Ten Football Preview

No one can say we’re being eased into Big Ten play this season. Saturday’s opening week features the Big Ten’s first divisional games (Minnesota at Michigan; Penn State at Indiana), in addition to Wisconsin hosting Nebraska in a battle of undefeated top 10 teams under the lights at Camp Randall Stadium. Illinois Volleyball Ranked No. 1

For the first time in program history, the Illinois volleyball team is ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Poll, released Monday. The Illini, who were No. 3 last week, received 55 of the 60 first-place votes after opening Big Ten play with a pair of wins to move to 13-0 on the season. No. 7 Nebraska, No. 9 Penn State, No. 10 Minnesota, No. 12 Purdue, No. 17 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State also made the poll.
