Video: Illinois' Jaylon Tate called for late technical foul at Michigan State

There was a technical foul called late in Illinois’ 59-54 victory at Michigan State that drew plenty of attention. It all happened with Travis Trice attempting the front-end of a 1-and-1 with 33.2 seconds left and Illinois leading 55-53. Trice made the free throw, but Illinois’ Jaylon Tate, the man in charge of boxing out the shooter, was hit with a technical foul after using his backside to box out Trice. It appears Tate hit Trice below the belt, and that’s definitely the way Trice reacted. The technical gave Michigan State two extra free throws and the ball, not to

Thought of the day – What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive! – Sir Walter Scott — Coach Harbaugh (@CoachJim4UM) February 7, 2015 Heralded running back prospect Mike Weber, out of Detroit, was torn between Michigan and Ohio State leading up to National Signing Day last Wednesday. Weber picked reigning national champ Ohio State, partly due to his relationship with Ohio State running back coach Stan Drayton. Well, on Thursday, Drayton took a job with the Chicago Bears. Weber didn’t receive the news very well. Just look at this tweet. [ MORE: Brutus trolls Michigan

BTN LiveBIG: Northwestern instructor Stuart Dybek’s road to writing mastery

Every Big Ten school has produced leaders who have reached the pinnacle of their professions, whether business, government, science and technology, medicine or education. High Profile takes a look at how these alums rose to the top of their field. It’s a pretty big deal when The New York Times singles you out as “not only our most relevant writer, but maybe our best.” Still, Stuart Dybek, Distinguished Writer in Residence at Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, is modest about the acclaim. A seasoned writer in multiple mediums, Dybek has been described a “virtuoso” of the short

Who is the Big Ten's men's coach of the year ... so far?

Who is the Big Ten coach of the year up to this point? There are some good candidates. You can make a case for Purdue’s Matt Painter, Maryland’s Mark Turgeon and Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan, among others. I asked five leading Big Ten writers for their choices. Lee Barfknecht, Omaha World Herald: Bo Ryan. Who else loses his three-year starting point guard and keeps winning? Get off my lawn, Bo says. Mike Miller, Bloomington Herald-Times: Everyone else has been a flavor of the week. The Badgers have more talent than before, but they’re still a reflection of Ryan’s consistency. Matt Charboneau, Detroit News: Bo
