It’s early in the season, so it comes as no surprise that we saw a lot of new looks across the Big Ten during Week 2 action. See all of the uniform and helmet alterations the Big Ten showcased Saturday in this post. Have a picture of a Big Ten uniform or arena/stadium alteration? Please tweet it to me (@BTNBrentYarina) for my Clothes Call blog.
I’ve already provided my snap reactions for today’s Big Ten early games and afternoon tilts. Now, it’s time to look at the three night games. The Big Ten went 1-2 under the lights, highlighted by Northwestern’s 23-13 win over Vanderbilt.
Taylor Kelly completed 18 of 24 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown, and Arizona State rolled past Illinois 45-14 on Saturday night to improve to 2-0 under new coach Todd Graham. Kelly’s backup, Michael Eubank, was 5 of 5 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns and ran 7 yards for a score.
Venric Mark ran for 123 yards and a late touchdown, Tyler Scott forced a key fumble and Northwestern beat Vanderbilt 23-13 Saturday night. Northwestern (2-0) didn’t score a touchdown in the first three quarters but managed 17 points in the fourth to come away with another dramatic win after beating Syracuse 42-41 in the opener.
Arizona State’s DJ Foster ran for 10 yards and one touchdown and caught one pass for 12 yards, and the margin is still 21, as the Sun Devils lead 35-14. Arizona State opened up the lead, 35-7, after Foster pounded in a one-yard touchdown run to end a two-play, 13-yard drive. Alden Darby’s interception of a Reilly O’Toole pass set the Sun Devils up to start the drive.
Brett Hundley passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns in an outstanding Rose Bowl debut, Datone Jones sacked Taylor Martinez for a tiebreaking safety with 8:44 to play, and UCLA surprised No. 17 Nebraska 36-30 Saturday night.
Arizona State got things going through the air, passing for 110 yards in the quarter, and the Sun Devils now lead 28-7. Illinois has given up the last 14 points. The Fighting Illini closed the gap to 14-7 when Donovonn Young turned a handoff into a 17-yard touchdown to put the finishing touches on a 75-yard drive.
