The preseason AP poll was released Monday, and four Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 11.

Ohio State leads the quintet at No. 2, behind top-ranked Alabama, while Penn State (No. 6), Wisconsin (No. 9) and Michigan (No. 11) round out the Big Ten contingent.

Northwestern (25), Nebraska (4) and Michigan State (1) all are receiving votes.

Some notes, courtesy of BTN's research team:

  • The three top-10 teams are the most the Big Ten has had since 1999 (4); it also had three in 1979 and 1994.
  • The three top-10 teams are more than any other conference.
  • Ohio State extends its national-best streak of consecutive seasons in the preseason poll (29), four away from tying the record.
