Ohio State wins 30th synchronized swimming national title

For an unprecedented 30th time, the Ohio State synchronized swimming team won the US Collegiate National Championship on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. Big Ten schools have now claimed two national titles so far this academic year, including championships for Ohio State synchronized swimming and Penn State wrestling.

The Buckeyes, who were hosting the US Collegiate Championships for the second time in the last three seasons, finished with 100 points which bested runner-up Stanford at 88 points. The 30 national titles in program history are the most of any sport at Ohio State.

Senior Emma Baranski posted a season-high score of 85.2667 to successfully defend her solo national title. She is the just the fourth Buckeye soloist to win back-to-back solo national titles and was also named the US Synchro Athlete of the Year by the coaches. The award goes to the student-athlete that shows tremendous character, commitment, sportsmanship, academic and athletic achievements.
