Nebraska, Minnesota knocked out of NCAA volleyball tourney
The Big Ten had a heavy presence at the NCAA volleyball tournament semifinal at Nationwide Arena in Columbus Thursday, as No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Minnesota made up half of the remaining four-team field. But both Big Ten teams were upset and did not advance to the championship.
In the opening match, No. 2 Minnesota (29-4) fell to No. 6 Stanford, 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22). This was the Gophers’ second consecutive Final Four berth, and fifth in program history. Minnesota has never won the National Championship.
Later, No. 1 Nebraska faced No. 4 Texas in the next semifinal but fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21). The Huskers also made it back in the Final Four in back-to-back years, and they took the national title back to Lincoln in 2015.
This was the Huskers’ 13th trip to the NCAA semifinal and they have won four national championships.
