Big Ten regular-season champ Illinois rallied past Wright State, 8-4, on Monday afternoon to claim its first NCAA regional championship.

With the win, the Illini tallied their 50th victory of the season and won their 19th consecutive home game, improving to 26-2 at Illinois Field.

Illinois clinched its first NCAA Regional title with an 8-4 victory over Wright State Monday afternoon at Illinois Field. No. 6 Illinois will host a Super Regional next weekend (dates TBA) vs. reigning national champ Vanderbilt.

There were quite a few theatrics in the game, starting with both starting pitchers showing their frustration in the dugout after being taken out and continuing with Wright State coach Greg Lovelady and shortstop Mitch Roman being ejected. Lovelady and Roman were escorted off the field by University of Illinois police.
