The Fighting Illini added a new mark to the record books on Wednesday, and it was a big mark.

A 3-2 victory over Nebraska in the opening round of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament gave the Illini their 27th straight win this season, which marks the longest winning streak by a Big Ten baseball team in conference history.

The record was previously held by Nebraska in 1983. Of course, the Huskers played in the Big Eight conference during that time.

With Wednesday's win over Nebraska, Illinois improves to 46-6-1, now just three victories away from matching the school record of 49, which was set back in 1982.
