Did you see this: Russell Wilson billboard fail

If you had to associate Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson with one university, it would probably be Wisconsin, right? That seems to be the consensus, despite the fact that Wilson spent four years at North Carolina State, before transferring to Wisconsin in 2011 for his final year of eligibility.

It is no secret that Wisconsin has certainly claimed the Super Bowl quarterback as one of its own. Just take a look at the team’s official Twitter feed, @BadgerFootball.

Also, there’s this billboard on Capital Blvd. in Raleigh, N.C., the home of North Carolina State University. The only problem is… They spelled Wilson’s name wrong. Check it out.

“Proud to call you one of our own, Russel! #GoBadgers”

Ouch!

It’s unknown who paid for the billboard, whether it be Wisconsin fans, NC State fans or someone else.

Yeah, feel sorry for that UNC’s wasted billboard $$

I’m an NC State grad and I love me some Russell Wilson! I don’t have any hate for the Badgers. I will say this; TOB has coached 3 starting NFL QB’s, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan and Mike Glennon. If the Badgers feel better claiming 20% of his development good on them! I think it’s clear the 80% he spent in Raleigh was the better part. Go Seahawks!

His degree is from NCSU. Enough said!

Maybe we need to see if any UNC athletes are involved with that type of spelling.

Perhaps you should research who paid for the billboard…As it’s miss-spelled it’s most likely a UNC fan or graduate.

Jonathan on 1/29/2014 @ 7:46pm EDT Said:

Seriously, the only people that try to troll NC State fans about Russell Wilson are UNC fans. I would be willing to bet money a Tar Heel fan paid for. The spelling is the obvious giveaway.

Better yet perhaps you should verify the billboard actually exists. I say Photoshop. First clue is the trees in the right of the picture still have leaves – that’s not the case in Raleigh in January.

jskinner23 on 1/29/2014 @ 8:53pm EDT Said:

@iamgumbydammit – Not ruling out it being a Photoshop but those are pine trees on the right. Raleigh is full of them and they don’t lose their needles.

It’s funny Mark. If you’re going to slam someone for misspelling, you might want to make sure you spelled “misspelled” correctly.

Mike Egleston on 1/30/2014 @ 6:05pm EDT Said:

To iamgumbydammit …those are in fact pine trees as jskinner said and this is not Photoshopped. I can verify that the board exists as I work for the billboard company that posted it. It was purposely misspelled at the request of the client, but the vinyl will be changed out soon.

The misspelling was supposedly intentional according to the advertising exec. that did business with whomever paid for it.
