Penn State wins record-tying sixth NCAA title

In the first all-Big Ten NCAA volleyball title match, No. 2 Penn State took down rival and No. 12 Wisconsin, 3-1, Saturday night in Seattle. The national championship marks Penn State’s fifth in the last seven seasons and sixth all-time, which ties Stanford for the most titles in NCAA women’s volleyball history.

Ariel Scott led the Nittany Lions with 21 kills, while Megan Courtney and Katie Slay added five blocks apiece. Courtney and Dominique Gonzalez recorded 20 kills each and Micha Hancock totaled 48 assists.

Great tournament! I am here in Seattle and the city followed the tournament closely and turned out for the final. Wisconsin will be good again next year. They matured rapidly in the tournament!

Congrats to Penn State. Congrats to Wisconsin as well. The best conference by far in Women’s Volleyball. This sport needs to be on TV far more often.
