Big Ten Elite profiles 1985 Iowa football

On Saturday right after Iowa’s football game against Northwester, BTN airs the latest “Big Ten Elite,” which profiles the 1985 Iowa Football team. Led by Head Coach Hayden Fry and senior quarterback Chuck Long, the Hawkeyes won their second Big Ten Title in a five-year span and headed to the Rose Bowl.

The one hour show included extended interviews with Fry, Long, linebacker Larry Station, then assistant coaches Kirk Ferentz and Bob Stoops, and kicker Rob Houghtlin among others. In the clip in this post, watch several people describe Iowa football before Fry arrived and then hear Fry himself describe what it was like to take over the team.

This show also features highlights of the Hawkeyes’ thrilling 12-10 victory over Michigan in a battle between the nation’s two top-ranked teams.

I have asked BTN when you request games to show the 1985 Iowa-Michigan State football game – at Iowa, Homecoming and it was a back-and-forth slugfest that has to be seen to be believed. Chuck Long was great for Iowa, and Lorenzo White was unstoppable for Michigan State. The final was 35-31 Iowa on a naked bootleg by Long with almost no time left. Even though my Spartans lost, I will never forget watching that one – even remember where I was for the game. C’mon, BTN, add it to your play list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDBrQiHLHwQ

My boys were born in Lansing, MI, but are avid Hawkeye fans, and we were there for that slugfest and all of the 1985 season. That year we bought the family tickets to the Rose Bowl. I would love to get the DVD of this show, but can’t find where to purchase it. Any suggestions:?
