Dienhart: Badgers move up in bowl projections

No big shakeups in my weekly bowl projections. The biggest is Wisconsin leaping past Michigan into the Capital One bowl, clashing with LSU. Of course, these schools will meet in season-opening games in 2014 (at Houston’s Reliant Stadium) and 2016 (at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field). Minnesota also has moved up to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, where I have it playing Baylor.

I’m surprised to see Iowa projected in Bowl game.

Iowa will surprise some teams this year and will make a New Year’s Day bowl game. Kirk Ferentz is too good of a coach.

Bucky Realistic on 9/24/2013 @ 1:20pm EDT Said:

If Ferentz is such a good coach, where has this team been the last 3 years? It’s a good thing he has such a high buy-out otherwise he’d be a gonner.

Re: Where Iowa has been the last three years: Three years ago: 8-5, beating a one-loss No.12 Missouri team in the Insight Bowl. Two years ago: 7-6, losing to Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl. One year ago, indeed, home for the holidays. Let’s cut this “2010 and 2011 were bad for Iowa” stuff. Just not true. Disappointing, yes. Bad, no.

The Big Ten, and major college teams in general, should be embarrassed with the horrendous matchups in nonconference play again this year. When teams are scoring 50, 60, 70 points–what does that prove? It’s football bullying and it needs to stop.

hasn’t any other team aside from Iowa had to go through rebuilding years? stop whinning and just enjoy the season….

Wallace Johnston on 9/25/2013 @ 12:26pm EDT Said:

Tom, feel free to post these “projections” again on Dec. 8. Some people may not remember how bad these are, and letting them remember would surely bring a few welcome chuckles.
There’s no way Ohio State makes the title game, no matter what. But one reason will be the Buckeyes’ loss to Wisconsin this Saturday. Poor Urban Meyer. No defense means you lose. Just ask that feller over in Lincoln.

And Northwestern? Please… Last year was awesome for the Wildcats. But that was then, this is now, and now means back to reality for NW.

You might have Michigan State about right. But otherwise, I’m enjoying a good laugh over these right now. But thanks for playing…

Wallace, thanks for reading. as you probably know, these projections are 1) posted weekly and 2) never taken down. So they don’t need to be posted again. All part of the fun of tracking the season.

L Johnson on 9/25/2013 @ 12:35pm EDT Said:

Until we see them actually play someone, I don’t see how you justify having (or even projecting) Ohio State in the National Title game.

If they beat Wisconsin convincingly, followed by a win at Northwestern, then you may have an argument that they are one of the 2 best teams in the country.

Wadero on 9/25/2013 @ 12:58pm EDT Said:

Northwestern in the Rose Bowl? No way they survive Ohio St., Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan St. and Michigan…

Doc Dug on 9/25/2013 @ 5:50pm EDT Said:

Way too much football to be played before any realistic predictions can be made for BCS bowls match ups. Then throw in injuries and all of the other unpredictable factors. I’d say mid November is a good time to start seriously looking at this topic.
