Agreed! Northwestern and Purdue should be next two teams.

Nebraska needs to start a team…actually, every school in the conf should have a team

dick patten on 6/25/2013 @ 5:54am EDT Said:

I agree does Northwestern and Purdue have club teams ? Why doesn’t Iowa have a team, anyhow i think a 6 team conference doesn’t make sense. Why didn’t they invite Miami,Ohio or Western Michigan to join? Good Luck to this new conference, however I do feel i need ti add a couple of more schools.

So from what I can see is MN will be playing 2 games before the holiday break? 2 games are you serious !! Why would MN agree to this change. Talk about killing a program this isnt the ADM of USA Hockey

“Why didn’t they invite Miami,Ohio or Western Michigan to join?” Um.. probably because they’re not Big 10 schools. Nice thinking there chief. Also, league bylaws state that they can form a league of a sport if there are at least 6 participating schools. Since Penn St. moved their club team up to D1, that made it 6 teams so they made a league.

They invited Johns Hookins to be member of the Big Ten for Lacrosse, so why not invite Western M ichigan or Miami, Ohio for hockey? I don’t understand why some of the other Big Ten schools don’t hockey such as Iowa, Northwestern, or Illinois?

Indiana ad Illinois have club teams maybe they will make the jump soon.

Hmm … uninspired scheduling. I wish BTN would have showcased the great traditional hockey rivalries. One home-and-home rivalry weekend with Minn/Wisc, Mich/MSU, and OSU/PSU. This would have made for good promotion and interest, especially mid-season or on the final weekend.

Instead we get Michigan and Ohio State trying to piggy-back on the football rivalry. We get the heated Minnesota/Wisconsin rivalry when students are gone and the general viewing public only cares about football.

Jimbob on 8/3/2013 @ 12:24pm EDT Said:

because Western sucks.

    Anthony D. on 8/3/2013 @ 10:29pm EDT Said:

Dick patten: Big 10 invited Maryland/Rutgers to join the conference in 2014 in all sports (neither of which have hockey, so that point is moot), and John Hopkins in lacrosse so they could get to 6 teams. They already have 6 original big 10 teams for hockey, so they dont have to go out and search for extra schools to get to that 6 like they did for John Hopkins.

dick patten on 8/3/2013 @ 10:50pm EDT Said:

I feel the Big Ten in starting this conference is losing out. I would like to see them ask Miami,Ohio, Western Michigan, Lake Superior State, Ferris State, long time rivals to become members in hockey only, although Western Michigan, Miami, Ohio, could handle themselves as football members. I am hoping to see Michigan come to New Hampshire. Good Luck in their first year, but 6 members is not good enough.

    Anthony D. on 8/4/2013 @ 12:57am EDT Said:

the Big 10 doesn’t care about getting a bunch of teams with longstanding rivals in hockey, if they did they would have invited some teams to join the 5 they already had years ago and make a conference that way. They just wanted “their” teams so they could make their own conference and make $$ off it by airing the games and such. 6 teams is pretty weak I agree, but I also think seeing M(OH), WMU, LSS in there would be pretty weird. Conferences are alright as they are. IL might join the fray in not too distant future, their ACHA team is pretty good, with the right amt of funding for upgrades, I could see them making the jump

Gophers will walk away with the league title…

JubJub on 8/8/2013 @ 4:44pm EDT Said:

Minnesota has holes to fill on offense–no Gopher hole pun intended. They lost the most scoring power in the B1G. The maroon and gold lost 44% of their scoring from 2012-13. This won’t be the same team as last year.

Matt Johnson on 8/9/2013 @ 2:56am EDT Said:

I hope these games are aired often! I would rather watch hockey than Basketball!
